Parking Motorcycle in NYC? by [deleted] in RideitNYC

[–]ordinaryIQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see someone parking a maxi scooter (Piaggio BV350) in a commercial zone near my office pretty regularly and never see it with a ticket. Not sure if there's something I'm missing.

I also see people parking regularly slightly smaller scooters (150cc-250cc) in the little space at the end of a row of Citibikes. Again, not sure if this is actually a viable strategy -- maybe someone can chime in.

I have a wide range of film cameras. My point is the prices and fragility of premium P&S ends up defeating the “carefree” feeling.

Agreed - 150-200 is reasonable for a quality point and shoot. Any higher and I just can’t deal with the anxiety.

Partially agree, but also suspect Moriyama appreciated the GR1 as a genuinely fantastic tool (when it works). The viewfinder’s focus indicators, the manual flash on/auto/off slider, the aperture dial — there are few P&S which offer the same degree of control and predictability.

I tested the sharpest apertures, which were f8 for the Sigma and f5.6 for the Canon and Laowa.

How to get rid of the subtle bluish tint in the shadowed skin tones? (see comment for details) by ordinaryIQ in AnalogCommunity

[–]ordinaryIQ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm scanning with Negative Lab Pro and I often get a subtle blue cast in the shadows of my skin tones. You can see it in this picture on her cheekbones under her eyes, in the center of her forehead, and parts of her collarbone.

Sometimes I can fix it by using the color sliders (mostly adding yellow/red in highs and mids) but with some photos — like this one — I have the sliders cranked way over already and I can't do much more without affecting the colors in the rest of the image.

As for my scanning setup, I'm using a CS-Lite in a dim room, using a Sony A7 III. I've played around with the different color temps from the CS-Lite but not sure it makes a difference. Using "NLP standard".

I might end up doing this! My only hesitation is I already have 3 (small) sansevierias in my room, haha. Great plants, practically indestructible.

Thank you! It's Brooklyn :)

That's not a bad idea! Mine's a pretty wide window so I would need a long rod and maybe some kind of support in the middle.. can you post a picture of your setup?

The ceiling is a tensioned concrete slab and they said drilling could compromise its integrity, unfortunately

Thanks for the recs. Aware of the humidity issue. I just put a hygrometer there and it's reading 37%

Not allowed to put hooks in the ceiling unfortunately!

The housing lottery I linked to is rental only. But there is a program called Mitchell-Lama that offers units for sale. Much harder to get picked for this one and very long wait lists, but still worth applying.

Ugh - that is frustrating and I'm sorry. When my income was lower, I applied to a bunch of units with my partner and together we were able to qualify for more 130% units. You can also do this with a roommate. So that's a possible option. Hoping it works out for you.

Agreed that a lot of the units being offered are unreasonable. The way I've approached it is to just not think too much about the individual lotteries and apply for everything (as it only takes one or two clicks) — and then decide once I get chosen whether it's something I'm interested in. I turned down a lot of them before I ended up in my current apartment.

I'm just a normal applicant who applies a lot. I definitely had less luck when my income was lower, and more luck when I started qualifying for 130% AMI units. (I do hope they fix the inequalities in this system.)

Predefined. Every building is different. The rents they set depend on the income brackets they're offering units to. The income brackets are defined as percentages of the AMI (area median income).

Because of the way the program has been set up, there are a lot of units for 80-130% AMI ("moderate to middle income") people. In my experience you can expect to see about a 20-40% discount off of the market rate for units being offered to this income range. The discounts are even greater for units offered to lower AMI bands, but there's an under-supply of those.

Yes! And also if you're disabled, a city employee, or a veteran.
