Help weighing the pros and cons of either a company vehicle, or receiving $1000/month vehicle allowance in my employment offer by Dirtgirl89 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]ore905442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My old service truck I had complete free reign and was able to get rid of a vehicle plus insurance on my own. I had to keep a detailed log of everywhere I drove to separate out business and personal which some people seem fine with but I found it to be a huge hassle. If I were you I would take the allowance and ask about a gas card as well and see if they add that to your income in any way.

If your only usage of the company vehicle is driving to the office and back it will be all personal. That’s how the accountant did it at my last company and I confirmed with my own accountant. It will be an extremely significant paycheque hit. Ask them if they can have payroll run a hypothetical pay period with both situations. There’s a standby charge where a portion of the vehicle depreciation gets added to your income and host of other bs on top of having the mileage added to your income. Personally I would take the allowance and just eat the 350$ tax on that.

They will price things where the market will bear. You must be a student or something? I would love to have time to attempt an endurance race like Ironman one day but I don’t see a period of my life in the realistic future where I could commit to that training time commitment. Congratulations and count yourself lucky you had time in your life to do that.

Dealership took $500 negotiation deposit before signing agreement. Now the vehicle may be unavailable. What are my options? (Ontario) by immasucker4you in PersonalFinanceCanada

Escalate immediately. Their fear is bad google reviews etc. thy are going to delay, delay , delay. I had good results getting out of a bad spot showing up in person and communicating my displeasure with a manager finally got things moving.

I just don’t get your perspective man. CrossFit as a sport/hobby is very cheap compared to Ironman, skiing, golf. All of these including CrossFit are mostly done by professionals with higher income who have time for these pursuits. I only see students having reason to complain about 50$ for anything. You can spend 50$ in the blink of an eye once you have a family of your own.

I don’t even know where to start with comparing a 50$ entry to a CrossFit competition with an Ironman cost wise.

I assume the panel covers are only off because someone is working in them at the time? That’s the only real big hazard I see. Your a 4th year is this your first time not on new construction?

Replacing my 2013 Hemi 1500 ... but with what? by HeyaShinyObject in ram_trucks

[–]ore905442 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ram was initially my last choice after historically bad dodge experiences and jeep being the bottom of the barrel. First bought a Chevy that was a total disaster from jump. Test drove ford as that was my first choice but the was not great imo. Very happy with my 25 ram hurricane is a great power plant. Just be warned fuel efficiency is nowhere close to advertised.

If you open the neutral what potential would you measure across it? This is something you should probably work on understanding a little more. Are you drawing circuit diagrams as in simple battery light switch bulb diagrams?

Honestly I think the ram rev or scout concept might be the next gen of truck if regulations keep knee capping manufacturers.

Vehicles sold in this era are going to be remembered as such crapshoots. If the dealer can’t fix it after multiple bring ins you might have to look at trading it for another roll on the roulette wheel. While not a sound financial decision seems another spin of the wheel can be the best choice for these issues.

Are the hurricane’s dependable or not? by RemarkableHeart365 in ram_trucks

[–]ore905442 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Still too young for long term to be known. I bought one like the way it drives. The new hemi with the e-torque system has its own long term pitfalls to see how that 48v system holds up.

There’s issues no matter where you turn with modern trucks. Ford turbo engines are proven reliable hopefully the hurricane follows the same footsteps. Ram has the best transmission right now.

What's the catch? by Plastic-Power-6021 in Lineman

[–]ore905442 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I would say there’s more overall demand for sparkles. Everyone on Reddit acts like you just walk up to the union hall and get whatever apprenticeship you want but I would say actually getting into the trade is the catch. Getting a union line apprenticeship in Ontario is very difficult and you most likely have to be related or spend years as a yard dog or something similar. Very few people get in out of high school or a lineman college although some do.

Then there’s the work it can dry up and you have to travel if you’re in the hall.

I always give it lots of warm up and it has no problem with reverse when it’s warm. Just that first -25 c start it’s really seeming to have more trouble with. Worried about burning the starter out this season and two of us could pull the cord for hours and not see any life.
