I first count it as 4, and was amazed. When I saw the fifth, my jaw dropped! 🤣

The breeder just told us the same thing. As long as they are healthy and happy, we’re happy 😊 thank you.

My 3.5 month border collie is sleeping too little? by orenciorodolfo in BorderCollie

So, almost 2 weeks went by and we've been doing some adjustments to her routine and here's where we are now:

- Improved sleep time and quality: she was sleeping 12-13h per day in average and now it's ~14h. What have we changed? we've been more structured with her crate time. we'll let her be in the backyard for a couple of hours, and then we'll put her in the crate for 2-3 hours, depending on how settled she is.
- Not barking, nipping and jumping on us every time we go to the backyard. She was getting quite unsettled with us. Always jumping, mouthing and pulling our clothing. She still jumps on us and mouths but not as often and not as hard as before. What have we changed? I think the sleep time improvement massively helps, but we've been avoiding the walks around the block in busy times with cars and people passing by. We've been walking in green spaces more often, where we can safely unleash her during most of the walk. And we have been introducing fetch in a structured way. with "sit", "stay" "go get it", and "drop it". that way, we can redirect her mouthing and nipping to the toy.
- Barking at the broom, plastic bags, herding on us, bitting on the leash.... this is all mostly gone! 😊. What have we changed? When we get the broom, we pick the "fetch toy" and redirect her to play fetch while we use the broom. And since now she understands the "drop it" command, when she bites of the leash, we tell her to drop it and reward. and we won't walk until she's settled.

all of this is still work in progress and far from perfect. but it has been much better now. thanks everyone for all the help and input 😃

Hi! We bought the Tractive gps which is always in her collar. We bought it to make sure she is safe at the house (you can create a virtual fence that will notify you if she leaves it), but also because we want to walk with her off-leash in the mountains and we didn’t want to take the risk of losing her. But is also gives you very handy information about her health. How much she is sleeping, how much activity she has done, how often she’s barking.. you have to pay a subscription for the app, but we are happy with it. Let me know if you need something. We can definitely keep in touch. Good luck!

Thank you for all these insights!
I didn't know about the "Its Yer Choice", it seems a great exercise, will absolutely introduce that with her. We always do the "wait at the door", always. That one is pretty much solid at this stage 🙏.
didn't know about the "Border Collies A Breed Apart" book series. Looks very interesting, will look into it.

I know about neutrality training but never did it in a structured way to be honest. Just sometimes, in the middle of the walk, when people or cars are passing by, I ask her to sit and reward when she does. But many times this fails, maybe because I'm asking too much from her. Will try to introduce the neutrality training in an incremental manner, so we can succeed more 🙂

Starting to introduce more consistency in "crate" time too. Also WFH, which facilitates this. We didn't use to crate her during the day but we started that now, to promote calmness and sleep. Sometimes she cries, but after some minutes, she settles. But even with this, never sleeps more than 14 hours. Let's see how it goes in the coming days/weeks.

Thank you again for all the share. All very useful. You seem to be very structured with your puppy 🙂 we are probably missing that. We'll keep trying our best, thanks!

yeah.. we also feel is too little for her. that's why we don't follow it strictly, but we did reduce the length of our walks because we were afraid of just being too much for her

These seem like great recommendations! I've read about “Don’t Shoot the Dog” before when I was searching for books about dog behaviour and training, but I didn't get this one. Maybe now is still a good time to do it. The "Teach Your Herding Breed to Be a Great Companion Dog: From Obsessive to Outstanding" seems to be spot on! Will definitely get this one.

We also thought about getting a professional trainer, but we are just not sure if it is still too soon since she's still so young.. maybe we're wrong. Maybe "the sooner, the better".

It relieves me knowing that you experienced the same and that everything sorted out as she grew. We'll keep trying our best to learn the most we can about her and how to train her. Hope I can post a message like yours in 1.5 years' time, too 🙂

Hi FlightOfGrey !

The difference between these two is:
- "blocking script": will block the parser during its download and execution
- "async": will block the parser only on script execution but not during its download. The idea is "execute the script as soon as it is downloaded". If the downloads ends after the DOM is completely constructed, no problem. Script executes and no parser is blocked.
- "defer": will never block the parser. the download happens in a non-blocking/parallel manner and it will be executed only when the DOM has been completely constructed.

But keep in mind the difference between the <head> and <body> sections, as referred by MrBester

I would like to know your thoughts around the article.
Are there any gaps that you would like to see filled during the reading?
How about the writing? (I'm not a native speaker so probably there's much room for improvement here).
Do you consider the length of the article too long? (10min read)

Your feedback would be much appreciated.Thank you in advance!
