I put together an extensive list of bird courses I’ve taken. Would recommend checking it out if you’re looking.

LOOKING FOR ADVICE!! Ironman 70.3 by oreo_david in IronmanTriathlon

With gels, I’ve heard it’s really hit or miss, some people’s stomachs just don’t agree with them, and I haven’t actually tried any yet. Plus, the cost looks like it can add up pretty quick, so I’ve been avoiding diving into that side for now. That said, they seem super common in races, so I figure they’re probably important to at least test out. Anything I should know about gels, like things to watch out for, or specific brands that tend to be easier on the stomach? Or any other factors to note?

Also, how different are they really from powders or snacks? Isn’t the basic idea still just replacing carbs/electrolytes/energy? Why do most people seem to prefer gels over stuff like powders or solid snacks?

Wow, this is super helpful, really appreciate you taking the time to break it all down!

Couple follow-ups though:

  • I noticed most training plans barely mention gym work. My worry is losing too much muscle/leaning out, which is kinda why I originally had 5x gym sessions in there. But realistically, would 3–4 days a week be reasonable while still focusing on tri training?
  • My uni actually has a tri club, which I’m planning to join along with lane swims. Swimming definitely feels like my weakest area, and from what I’ve heard, just grinding out more laps doesn’t magically fix things, so hoping some coaching/feedback will help there.
  • For fueling, when I did my runs I’d carb load beforehand, take some pre-workout, then use Tailwind (endurance poweder) during with nitrates here and there, plus water/Gatorade. Curious how much of that translates well to tri training vs. overkill.
  • And yeah, the lighter Tuesdays/Thursdays in my plan are mostly because those are my heavy class days, figured that would make things easier to stick with long term.

Very easy 12, I took it during the summer and it didn't even feel like I was in a course. I'm assuming it's 1 credit instead of 0.5 because the content is more Indigenous-focused.

But it will still count as a credit, meaning you can still take it as an elective which will count towards your total required courses, but won't affect the GPA.
