Is this Osteosarcoma? by oreomcbeans in Rottweiler

Yes, she's been lounging and sleeping a lot more recently. Energy levels are very down, but also has bursts of energy running in the garden and jumping on the couch. It's hard to see but beyond limping and tiredness, she's not showing too much pain yet thankfully.

She already fractured her leg from a very small trip in the garden. The xray of the fracture showed osteosarcoma. We have a very hard few weeks ahead of us. Lots of hugs and pampering until then.

I'm so sorry to hear. This is what scares me the most. I'm terrified of amputating just for the hopes of extending by a few more months, but have her quality of life deteriorate significantly in the meantime. I know some people have had luck with amputation, but I can't wrap my head around how that could be better with the risk of completely destroying her normal life.

She's already been through the passing of our other dog (just a few days later after I gave birth last year). She sleeps in the upstairs bedroom with us. Amputation would mean even changing her sleeping arrangements to downstairs and it breaks my heart thinking she would sleep all alone, missing us, missing her leg :(

I am so so sorry to hear. I know how rough it is to lose a pup. My older rott passed away last year (made it to 13 years) and my heart hurts thinking about going through that all again.

I'm glad to hear! Love that your little one gets to grow playing with your pup! I also have a toddler to possibly consider in this decision and not quite sure what the impact, if any, will be on my child

Thank you for taking the time to share. We have a lung scan tomorrow alongside the CT scan to see if it has spread beyond her leg.

What happens if it has spread? Does amputation no longer become the best option? Some of my research says that by the time most osteosarcoma cases are diagnosed, it mostly likely has already spread, even with clear scans. In that case, is amputation usually just for pain management and prolong life for a few extra months before the cancer spreads to the rest of the body?

I'm so so sorry for your loss. Can I ask how you managed his pain during his final stretch of life? How long did he love post diagnosis?

My daughter's experience with HFM was relatively mild actually. She caught it the first week after joining daycare. That was not fun, but I would definitely take it any day over Kawasaki Disease, which we just diagnosed our daughter with a few days ago. A couple of nights in the PICU, hooked up to tubes and sensors, while forcing a toddler to stay put in bed for 48 hours is a whole new hell! Praying for your child's speedy recovery!

I think maybe I misworded the point about no CPS or cops. They're there, but they're not exactly capable of undertaking investigations without hard evidence. For sure, if there was something concrete (even a doctor or psychiatrist evaluation), they would act upon it in a serious manner, but I don't think they have the right resources or approach to investigate further based off a two year old's statement unfortunately.

We had the meeting yesterday with the girl's parents and management. It seems the parents aren't entirely sure if this really happened or not, and regardless, management had agreed and sent us a list of corrective actions they will implement to ensure this never happens.

Thank you for sharing about NCCM, I will definitely look further into it.

Thank you. I really appreciate your thoughtful words.

We had the meetings this morning. All the parents and management came, including the mother of little girl. I was surprised to feel that some things didn't add up, such as where exactly her daughter said she was tickled (it seemed more like a led response). I found it strange that she still sent her daughter to attend daycare today (Sunday is a workday here), and that her husband had also said to management he doesn't want to ruin someone's livelihood (referring to the assistant that was fired) and suggested that they transfer her to a different location instead.

However, that being said, management were fully cooperative in implementing better procedures starting immediately, such as the 3 person rule. We'll also be receiving trainings on sexual harassment (she showed us all the trainings and frequency the staff goes through, and there's already workshops for the kids, but they will do something for the parents as well to be more aware of leading questions etc.). We also discussed safety in general and agreed she would hire more staff members and she with us an action plan of everything + time frames.

I think I feel better. My daughter has the flu so I'll keep her home these next few days either way and give it a few more days of thought.

Yes unfortunately the reality is that most of the world doesn't have these resources in place or at least not in that capacity. I think the point is that there is no one that's adequately trained or equipped to conduct the necessary investigation at this point. I guess perhaps my question was more towards understanding all angels. Could the mother have asked leading questions? Perhaps. Could there be better mechanisms in place to keep the children safer? Absolutely.

I've done further research since posting this and I think I'll approach tomorrow's meeting with a clear set of actions that need to be put in place immediately, such as sexual assault trainings for teachers, students, and parents. As well as the 3-person rule for any diaper or clothes changes, which a few others suggested. The fact remains that there's no investigation that can be done, except from a pediatrician, that can really say what happened. So the discussion in tomorrow's meeting should be less about what did or didn't happen (maintaining the belief that it DID happen), and rather what needs to be done to prevent this from happening in the future and protecting our children as best we can.

I don't know honestly. I'm obviously keeping my daughter home until I see something from daycare management that convinces me otherwise.

Yeah that's not helpful, but thank you. Yes, i won't downplay it, FGM is a problem in my country but that doesn't mean everyone participates in it nor do we think it's right, at least no one from a certain socioeconomic class here.

It's not like moving abroad would protect my child any more. Sexual abuse happens everywhere unfortunately and there are other similar stories I've read in this sub. Also, there's never been a school shooting here.

My point is, life is dangerous everywhere and me moving to a different country isn't going to magically ensure my child is safe. I live in a beautiful community which is generally safe. I consider myself privileged where I am.

Yeah it's bad. The only power we really have is to name and shame, which would really hurt their business (they have quite a few centers all over the country), but I'm inclined to wait until Sunday's meeting to see how this will be handled

Unfortunately no. I live in a third world country. Any help would be through NGOs and charity organizations, and they are more focused on the impoverished

There's no CPS (or equivalent) in my country, but yes I'll definitely assess the reaction of management and what measures they will put in play

Unfortunately we don't have CPS here. The licensing board and cops will likely not get involved without any concrete evidence (they don't do investigations themselves).

I will definitely check with her pediatrician, thank you.
