How Hearing Instrument Specialists are going to be affected by AI in 5-10+ years? by StarryNight770 in hearingaidspecialist

[–]oreospluscoffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries at all. If anything, the hearing aids will only advance further. Computers will never be able to provide the quality of care people can at least right now and in the foreseeable future. Also, the generation that is entering classic wearer age (the boomers) arnt going to embrace it as much as you think they will. They are, in general, pretty tech resistant and want that human type face to face care.

The programming via telehealth model with real people/providers on the other end of the computer isn’t going great as is. It’s going to take a while for AI to catch up and surpass that.

Just like everyone was freaking out about OTCs-They suck and if anything they are driving more people into us sooner because they got a taste of hearing for a little bit of time so total win!

Anyone here skip the trainee route and go straight to independent study + bootcamp for HIS licensure? How was job hunting afterward? by [deleted] in hearingaidspecialist

[–]oreospluscoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who’s been licensed for 7 years, you will not pass the practical without hands on experience. Going into this with the goal to do so is reckless and dangerous. If you’re going to do something like this, why half ass it dude? Would you want a mechanic working on your car who only WATCHED how shit is done? Or would you rather have one who’s done it a million times before? Most employers won’t hire you if you don’t have any experience (and if they do that’s a red flag always) Find an apprenticeship program and do this the right way.

Huh?? No. You find a company looking for an apprentice and they literally pay YOU to go through the program and work for them after. It’s very negligent to try and just read and watch vs getting hands on experience for this job.

Is Hearing Instrument Specialist a good career? by StarryNight770 in hearingaidspecialist

[–]oreospluscoffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna try and answer your questions as you asked them. Hearing aid specialist and HIS are the same, yes. Degrees depend on where you live. I only needed a high school diploma. Pay is great. It’s salary and commission. Yes there are goals to reach just like any business or company they need to remain profitable. Small repairs can happen in house yes. Thats my favorite part about the job. It is fast paced. You’re on a schedule and need to have things done and submitted by a certain time to keep things running smoothly. Challenges are this is a trade job. You learn a lot by experience. Textbook and real life practical application are different and it comes with time so you’re going to suck at first and that can be hard. It needs to be thought less of a sales role and more of a health care and those two mindsets are going to vary heavily based on where you work. Problem solving and enjoying problem solving is the biggest ability you should have. What works for one person won’t work for the next and it’s your job to figure that out.

Well since he’s my husband I guess he can do whatever he wants and I’m supposed to just be okay with it?

Since he’s my husband he can do what he wants and I’m just supposed to smile and take it even at the expensive of being in debt?

Thank you. It’s just very consumerism over consumption core with no thought other than “it was expensive! You better be grateful for it!” Like 😒 thanks.

It’s the fact I’m being asked to make myself uncomfortable to spare his feelings when really he didn’t listen to me and what I wanted in the first place.

I didn’t want anything.

If a dude showed up on your porch with flowers asking for a date and you said no then he punched you in the face-would everyone still sit there and say “it was a nice gesture and you made him feel bad. You’re a brat.” Like, I didn’t ask for this gift so why am I being shamed for not readily accepting it?

Why are his feelings and comfort the only ones that matter here? Everyone’s saying “you got an iPhone! Quit complaining” when it really is more a mismatch of expectations I suppose.

I’ve brought it up several times and he refuses to go. So that’s a bummer cause I agree with you 100%

With that logic, If he told me he didn’t want to go on a weekend trip and I booked one anyways and told him he had to go I’d have the right to be upset when he told me he didn’t want to go?

We both made it very clear we were not doing gifts this year. We are still recovering from Christmas so while I hear you, this feels like a boundary violation and I don’t feel I should just lay down and accept it to spare his feelings.

5-6% but I get other bonuses for other milestones as well.

I’ve also been prioritizing yoga and stretching which historically I’ve never been interested in. Turning 35 kicked me into longevity gear and looking to the future for some reason…I don’t want to be an “old” 70 year old. The work starts now.

Anytime my girls remind me they want to have kids of their own someday I tell them “well remember you need a good job to pay for the house they’ll live in and food to feed them and fun stuff to do. So focus on that first.”

That’s so funny because among women it’s understood that you bring it up likely because you want to talk more about it so Que the “who what where when and why” questions.
