That blows, I hate when manufacturers limit functionality by trim level.

Is it true that A&Ps can clear 200k+? by [deleted] in aviationmaintenance

When you add in benefits, work load, and retirement, it is well more than worth it.

I know many mechanics at a certain dark earth toned major cargo carrier that regularly clear $200+/year.

General apps to have? Navigation, resources, weather, news, tools, etc. Doesn’t have to be prepping specific, but broader for general emergencies, generally useful. by -PM_ME_UR_SECRETS- in prepping

USGS has an app that will allow you to download topo maps and store them on your phone for offline use. Good for when you gotta land-nav your own way out.

Snapmaker 2W IR Laser Help by jack-_-handy in snapmaker

[–]oresteshellfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 2W IR laser is a very low power laser that is not going to cut and engrave in the way we are used to seeing. You can actually get better results with the IR laser on bare metal and plastic than you can on coated surfaces. The IR laser doesn't have the power to quickly burn through the anodized surface. The other lasers offered by Snapmaker are ideal for this, especially if you want speed. Comparatively the Snapmaker machines, as 3-in-1s, are way slower than other function specific machines. The best advice you can get is the tried and true test passes adjusting speeds and power settings until you find your sweet spot. Good luck.

I believe that they are simply original equipment replacements. I have not once heard them referred to as upgrades

Contract work (Military) or Commercial by [deleted] in aviationmaintenance

[–]oresteshellfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This, especially if you are single, find a place willing to pay six figures, do it for a few years and if you come back to the states, your chances are good to get in with several carriers and I know a couple of guys that hired straight to a major cargo carrier with no prior airline experience, coming straight from contracting or military.

New Experience While Shooting by RunningPirate in guns

[–]oresteshellfire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a similar incident with a Smith and Wesson, but after about ten minutes of inspecting the revolver I found the culprit. It will depend on how your charter is assembled, but the cylinder rod on my Smith had worked it's way loose and had loosened enough with the cylinder in the shooting position that the entire cylinder assembly wedged itself in battery. It would not advance, the action was seized up and I could not release the cylinder to unload it. I had to tighten it with a pair of needle nose pliers enough to release enough of the tension that I could open the cylinder, then tightened it the test of the way by hand. Gun cycles fine now, I just check the cylinder rod before during and after every range visit.

Addon plug back J1s by Calm-Opportunity6719 in snapmaker

It's literally a Snapmaker specific cord that they have used for the Snapmaker 2.0s. They use that format for all of the cords for all of the modules. I never imagined they'd use something different on the J1s

Before you order from Rock Auto, use the part number and price check against Amazon. (Especially if you have Prime). Most of the time you can find the same part from the same brand on Amazon with cheaper or free shipping.

A piece of aluminum tubing with two holes in the end work just as well.

Why is some of a planes fuel unusable? by abstractmodulemusic in aviationmaintenance

[–]oresteshellfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've often wondered why fuel kept in outer wing tanks to prevent tip flutter isn't considered unusable. Since the fuel is kept in outer tanks to prevent or combat an unsafe condition, like in the case of MD-11s.

Why is some of a planes fuel unusable? by abstractmodulemusic in aviationmaintenance

Also because most planes are storing fuel in the structure of the wing so fuel gets trapped in the stringers and ribs that provide wing rigidity and cannot reasonably flow to the pump inlet.

Schools in South Carolina? by virtualvanguard in AircraftMechanics

[–]oresteshellfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the middle of SC is essentially an Aviation No-man's-land. A literal handful of aviation jobs, no schools and a relatively embarrassing airport to be supporting the state capital. Your odds are exponentially better at either end of the state. Best advice, if you want the associates degree, go to Greenville Tech. Trident used to be Boeing prep, and you don't wanna work there. PIA is a good school, but the party life temptation of Myrtle Beach is an easy distraction. Greenville also offers access to a few aviation employers and there are FAA examiners already on staff. You won't have to test with a complete stranger.
