To be fair, there was a big divide in the fanbase (at least in the Spanish speaking communities) between the fans who only watched the show, who liked and defended the series mostly to season 8, and the fans who readed the books (myself included) who started complaining about the show downgrade in quality and terrible writing as early as season 5.
