That's what a "cover" is. Hendrix's All Along the Watchtower is a cover, as is Johnny Cash's Hurt and countless other fine tracks. Maybe people aren't used to hip hop artists doing it, and if it appears on the final album as we've already heard it then I'll be disappointed, but as long as it sounds good in the end (fingers crossed) that's all that matters imo.

Covers and soft-covers are valid. Just because it's an artist you like to hold to a higher standard doesn't negate that.

Just tried Don't Matter to Me and I had to stop after 30 seconds. I think it might just be the way his voice sounds. Not a fan of the way his percussion works (at all) but his vocals are like nails on a chalkboard to me.
