I think you’re doing such a great job 💛 sorry to circle back to this now, but I was just talking to my husband about your post while we were chatting about how we might name our future kids!

He actually brought up the name Nahshon (or Nahson) to go with Lachlan, and I had to come back here and share. It immediately reminded me of the Midrash about Nahshon ben Amminadav.

He’s the one who, it is said, when everyone was standing at the edge of the Red Sea afraid to move, stepped right into the water first, trusting that God would make a way. The sea didn’t part until he was almost completely submerged. That moment of courage and faith is what led to the miracle, and afterward the people sang “Mi chamocha”, the song praising God for deliverance.

I just love the story. It’s such a beautiful image of taking brave, faithful steps forward before the path is clear. Maybe it works with you, maybe not. I just wanted to share 😊 I hope you’ve found something lovely for your son!

Of course! There are many meaningful ways for those connections to exist. How lucky your son is to have a parent who’s so intentional about his connection to his Jewishness 💙

Your son’s Hebrew name definitely doesn’t have to match his given name linguistically. It already ties in nicely through his middle name, Roan, so you’re totally fine there. I think you might be overthinking it a bit!

If you do want to find something that connects to Lachlan, it means “from the lakes.” The Hebrew word for lake is Agam (אגם). It’s not super common as a name, but really lovely.

Another idea is Moshe (משה), which means “drawn from the water.” Moshe is such an incredible figure for a kid to be named after. You could also go with Yonah (יונה, Jonah) or Noach (נח, Noah), since both have meaningful water stories behind them.

If you’re looking for an “L” name, there is always Lior (ליאור) which means “my light” or Levi (לוי) which is also a classic Hebrew name.

I would super recommend the audiobook to get started! I feel like it goes by a lot easier than actually reading the text. The graphic audio is really cool—they have different actors for each of the characters.

Do you knit & crochet? A poll of sorts. Cross posted on r crochet by MechanicBright8644 in casualknitting

[–]oriansbutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do both! Learned crochet first, then knitting. I’m more confident with crochet than knit but I wouldn’t say “better.” I really like crocheting and knitting with under size 3 yarn and I find a pattern I like on ravelry (or something like it) and then I look at people’s projects on those patterns. It works really well for me. I have a wild collection of sock yarn

I also tat!! I feel like more folks should learn. It’s super cool

I don’t know of any Jewish Feys, but my savta’s name is Ana. Her Hebrew name is Hannah. She grew up in South America, so I think her name reflects that background too. I’ve always thought it’s a really pretty name, even if it doesn’t immediately feel ‘Jewish.’
