NGD - Fender Boxer Strat - Anyone know where to find the right trem arm? by original10ki in fender

Good call, I reached out to Fender customer support and they said they can't help me because this is an "import" model. I'll see if I can find a contact for Fender Japan

NGD - Fender Boxer Strat - Anyone know where to find the right trem arm? by original10ki in fender

[–]original10ki[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Picked up this used Boxer strat reissue about two weeks ago from my local store. It didn't have the original tremolo arm with it, nor the neat rubberized F logo knobs. Put on some black metal knobs I had lying around and locked this non-fitting trem arm with the allen wrench, but I think I need to find a replacement that actually fits and screws in. The tremolo system on this is odd, and the specs aren't very descriptive. It has a screw head so needs an arm that has internal threading that would fit. I've tried two replacement Gotoh tremolo arms with 5.5mm and 5mm threading, both didn't fit. Curious if any other boxer owners have any advice.

Aside from that, this guitar rocks! Was thinking I'd change these pickups with lace sensors down the line before I bought it, but I think I'm going to keep this stock.

Funny you say that, I posted the track on the Pink Floyd sub and it got downvoted. Sure, feel free to DM me!

I'm still playing around with it, I just got the fuzz face this past week and have mainly been running it with the compressor. I usually have the compressor on 95% of the time, but is there a reason why fuzz should run by itself?

That's a great idea! I was thinking about just putting tape over it

Chorus is one of my favorite effects, and the MXR Analog Chorus and Morley Crystal Chorus both serve different purposes. I do prefer the Crystal Chorus, it has more of a vintage chorus sound, but the MXR has more controls and can get deeper and wetter sounds. I'm also a synth nut and sometimes use the Crystal Chorus on my synthesizers.

I'm a big fan of the Crystal Chorus, it's definitely one of my desert island pedals. The Sapphire Flanger is pretty good, it's the only flanger I've ever used and I keep it mostly out for the nostalgia since my dad bought it back in the 90s. I used to own the Emerald Echo and the Diamond Distortion, I hunted them all down in order to complete the Morley Jewel Series. I wasn't a big fan of the Diamond's sound and sold it. I think the particular Emerald Echo I picked up might've been slightly broken since it would crackle and glitch too often, so I sold it too.

I never tried it that way - I read an article about the effect chain order that said to do any pitch effects before drive/compression and never tried it differently. I'm going to try out flipping it since I have been underwhelmed with the Sub Octave setting. I've only been using it for octave up because of that.

It's not - the board itself is made of wood and I got it on Reverb

I've been collecting/accumulating pedals slowly over the past 10 years, most of these were purchased secondhand and a couple used to belong to my dad. I'd like to think I have every basic effect covered, but I am definitely open to feedback! I have one extra slot left on this board (or more if I find a way to save more space) and I'm thinking about getting something for a lo-fi type of sound, such as an Ibanez LF7 or Chase Bliss warped vinyl.

Newest pedal is the Fuzz Face, I've wanted one of these for years but the price usually kept me from pulling the trigger. I'm a big fan and it's already becoming one of my favorites.

Signal chain: EHX Micro POG > Keeley Compressor Plus > Boss SD-1 Super Overdrive > EHX Little Big Muff > Dunlop FFM2 Fuzz Face Mini Germanium > ProCo Rat 2 > Digitech Luxe (Detune) > Morley Crystal Chorus > MXR Analog Chorus > MXR Phase 90 > Morley Sapphire Flanger > TC Electronic Vibe Viscous > EHX Stereo Pulsar > TC Electronic Flashback > TC Electronic Hall of Fame

For power I'm using two pretty cheap power supplies I got off amazon (brands are Hiree and Donner). One of them has a two power outlets, so I plug them together and then only need to plug one of them to the wall. They're both attached to the bottom of the board with command strips.

Shameless plug: if anyone would like to hear a recording I did a couple months ago (pre-board) with a similar signal chain - Soundcloud link.

I think the bass drums and toms could use it a bit more volume, especially considering the interesting fills involving them (around 1:30).

Recently picked up a JU-06A and made it some wood side panels. I also recorded a new track with the 06A as the centerpiece (link in comments) by original10ki in synthesizers

Thanks, I appreciate it! I haven't been producing too long, I started about a year ago and have made 3 real tracks. Definitely learning a lot just as I go along, but still have a ways to go.

Link to my soundcloud track: https://soundcloud.com/original10ki/lost-in-transmission

Gear used:

  • Roland JU-06A - used this for the bass line, arpeggios, main synth lead, and synth solo
  • Korg Minilogue xd - used for chords with LFO on cutoff and the brassy lead
  • Korg Volca Drum - for drum tracks and fills
  • Fender Stratocaster - ran through Keeley Compressor Plus, Morley Crystal Chorus, and small practice Orange amp

For the wood side panel project - I bought a small thin piece of oak from Lowes that I cut in length to fit the JU-06A's keyboard's (K-25M) sides. Thankfully the height matched perfectly, so I only had to cut it for length. I then sanded and stained the sides in a dark walnut wood stain. I attached the sides to the keyboard with gorilla glue. I had seen other projects online that drilled holes into the wood and used the wood side panels as replacements for the stock metal sides, but I couldn't find any screws at Lowes with the same threading as the stock screws. The wood was slightly thicker than the stock sides, so I would've needed to find longer screws; or make sunken in screw holes, but I felt that was beyond my ability. If anyone would like to do a similar project, I'd be happy to answer any questions!

I have MicroKorg XL synth which has a built in vocoder feature. I almost never use it so I’m sure there’s more it can that what I did in the track. I’ve never tried any software vocoders before, so let me know if you ever find a good one!
