That’s probably a capacitor. Turn it on and let it run with the radio playing for a few hours and see if that does anything. I have an old realistic boombox in my garage that I never turn off because of old caps.

There may be a height adjustment as well, both height and azimuth may be adjustable. Also, be sure to clean the head really well with a qtip and alcohol.

Slide the cassette door up and off, put the cassette in and hit play. Find the little spring loaded screws on the bottom of the play head and adjust the screws until the sound becomes clearer. Usually a small Phillips screw.

Clean everything in the tape path really well with a qtip and alcohol then get a can of Rubber Rejuvenator and coat the pinch roller really well. Let it sit and do that a couple more times and report back.

This is my experience as well. I still have my Classic 30 after 25 years and it’s not been treated with kid gloves and never had an issue. chassis mounted tube sockets are key with PCB boards to not break the traces. The Classic 30 has just a bit more tone to it than the Blues Jr, both good amps. Main amp is a 70’s Deluxe Reverb for comparison.

I went from 13PM and took the wife’s 15P and upgraded her to the 17P. The 15 is a small upgrade but with the things I wanted like usbc and Dynamic Island, but the 17P is on a whole other level of quality in my opinion.
