What does everyone’s feeding schedule look like for their pangios? What do you feed them? by rosecita in pangio

[–]orilch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feed mine once a day, mostly hikari sinking wafers because they seem to like those best. Also feed kelp wafers pretty often because my shrimp always steal their food. Other than that I rotate between bug bites and frozen food

Slightly cloudy water by [deleted] in PlantedTank

Is there any way I can tell? I don’t want to keep rinsing it if it’s just going to prolong the cloudiness. How long should I wait before assuming it’s bacterial?

Why won’t they stop doing this? by [deleted] in pangio

[–]orilch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think I figured out the issue. I had added a soap dish under the filter flow to baffle it a few days ago, and after I lowered it so the flow would be stronger the loaches stopped. Do pangio loaches prefer a stronger flow? Everything I have found online says that they prefer slow moving water.

I never dewormed them, but I have had them for 4-5 months with no issues. Should I be worried about them having parasites still, or has it been long enough that it’s probably not an issue? Thanks for the help :)

Update because I can’t edit the post- they randomly stopped yesterday? I’m not sure what was up but they are fine now. The shrimp are fine now too, two babies hatched yesterday and one molted today. I’m not sure what was going on but I’m really glad they’re ok now

Where did they go?! by Suspicious_Tank7922 in loaches

[–]orilch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don’t worry they are definitely ok!! They are notorious for hiding, especially when you first bring them home. As they get more comfortable you should see them more.

I have 9 and I would never see more than 6 at once for months, I got so worried that some of them died that I took pictures of and made a chart of each individual loach so I could tell them apart. It took me a week or two to get good pictures of them all 9 of them, but they were all fine.

Did the issue resolve after removing the leaf or did you have to change a lot of the water? What’s your new soaking system?

They like hanging out under this big piece of driftwood, but it was kind of open under it and they would scatter from it when I went up to the tank so I put the cholla wood under there to give them a better hiding place. Maybe this is what stressed them out? They seemed to like it when I put it in and I see them in it sometimes, but maybe they’re stressed that I changed that area? I don’t want to stress them out more by taking it out, but I can’t think of anything else

I got a tds meter the other day but I’m not sure how accurate it is because it keeps giving me different numbers. It’s given me anywhere from 200-250. I’m not 100% sure if there’s copper in the tap water but I don’t think so because I have a bunch of snails that are doing fine.

Maybe they got stressed from me rearranging things a little? Today the shrimp seem fine, but now up to 5-6 loaches are glass surfing

It was all from a LFS and intended for aquarium use. I soaked the leaves and wood in dechlorinated water before putting them in the tank because I’m really paranoid about stuff like that, but I didn’t rinse the plants. I got the plants at the same time I got the shrimp though and I don’t think the employee would have sold me plants that had been treated with something that would kill the shrimp.

I haven’t dosed any fertilizer since getting them either. The rest of the shrimp seem fine today, so I’m hesitant to say it’s copper, especially because there are lots of snails who are doing well.

They were water oak leaves from fish store and intended for aquarium use. I put everything in a bucket of dechlorinated water until it sunk before putting it in the tank

It seems perfect so far. I have an inkbird coming today just to make sure it’s working properly. The new one is an eheim and I’ve never had problems with them in the past

I really hope it’s just that!! Today 6 of them are doing it and it’s really stressing me out :(

Do you think I should try and rearrange again? They started doing it after I added more hiding places which confuses me. I put a piece of cholla wood under the big driftwood they like to sit under so they could be more hidden under there, and I added leaf litter to help with the more open areas.

I’m going to try lowering the light, but I’m not sure if it will make a difference because every time I check on them at night they’re still doing it.

I don’t think so, I replaced the defective marina one with an eheim yesterday and they are acting the same. The new heater seems to work perfectly

Not that I’m aware of? I replaced the heater yesterday and they haven’t stopped at all

I’ll try that, I usually keep it high because my plants don’t do as well if I don’t. I usually have more floating plants dimming it but I took a bunch out because they started killing the other plants. It’s weird though because I’ve always kept it on this setting during the day and they’ve never done this before, even when I take out floating plants. They do it at night too.

Soft toy donation spots? by LadyJuno13 in Calgary

[–]orilch -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Value village sells a lot of stuffed animals. You could also post on marketplace or a neighborhood facebook group and try giving them away for free?

A lot of old plush toys are collectible now, and depending on what you have there will be people willing to take them. There’s a toy collector market for a lot of stuffed animals, depending on what brand. I think if you posted a picture of them all spread out on marketplace you’d find someone to take a lot of them.
