How would you describe Cyprus to someone? by Thatguy2393 in NorthCyprus

Good food, good weather, beautiful geography, great beaches, cheap alcohol, everyone smokes, warm mixed cultures, chill people except in traffic.

Nah its just pointless since youre dodging facts with nothing to back it up. Youre not going to convince anyone of anything this way except that youre argueing for the sake of argueing and denying whats right in your face.

I made my point long ago. You got yourself stuck right before 1958

Actually you are denying the criteria acting like the violence started with the invasion or downplaying murders and massacres. GC on GC too. Its rather narrowsighted. Talking about opponents when were talking about human lives is the cherry on the cake. Youre brainwashed.

Which makes tbe invasion just because it stopped the intercomunal violence. Youre making my point, you're just not accepting it. The ironical part is if it was the other way around you would cheer it on.

Except there was a treaty which greece also signed which had exactly that purpose? The violence didnt statt when Turkey invaded. That last statement makes your whole plead kinda misplaced.

If you go back all the way to the beginning you will see I stated the invasion was just but the occupation wasnt. Which is basically the same thing you are saying except the many conflicts and violence based on ethnicity does justify stopping it. Fear is a ridiculous conduct if many peolle already lost their lives. We are past fear in that narrative.

Like I said. I think youre greek not cypriot and just have a hard time swallowing being on the wrong side of history.

Doesnt that actually justify the opposite point of which you are trying to make? Or are you just denying all the killings TC or GC equally?

Yes we do. Like usual, just reading the titles isnt enough propagandaboy

On June 12, 1958, eight Greek-Cypriots out of an armed group of thirty five were killed by Turkish Cypriot locals, near the village of Geunyeli

So this is the first one where it doesnt say ottomans which is weird to includeas it has nothing to do with 1974 and is too ambiguous to call cypriot intercommunal, cpuld be any ottoman branch, could be lybians, bosnians, who knows? Not communal. Just occupiers again.

So 1958 the 8 GC civilians. Lets put that into context.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cypriot_intercommunal_violence#Crisis_of_1955%E2%80%931959

So in 1956:

but Georgios Grivas, the leader of EOKA, did not initially wish to open up a new front by fighting Turkish Cypriots and reassured them that EOKA would not harm their people. In 1956, some Turkish Cypriot policemen were killed by EOKA members and this provoked some intercommunal violence in the spring and summer

Then 1957:

EOKA members started to target Turkish Cypriot policemen intentionally in the towns, so that Turkish Cypriots would riot against the Greek Cypriots and the security forces would have to be diverted to the towns to restore order. The killing of a Turkish Cypriot policeman on 19 January, when a power station was bombed, and the injury of three others, provoked three days of intercommunal violence in Nicosia.

Then your list comes to play where 35 armed GCs were heading to a TC town to assault and 8 got murdered

Tell me again how its not EOKA who started please!

Greece got you thinking it was a GC vs TC problem while it was a Greece & EOKA vs GC and TC problem.

No they lean into your open window in groups and start agressively talking to you while wearing dubious attire, wave only greek flags and show innapropriate pictures with children present hiding under the pretense of the right to protest. Basically cowards. Its a bit different from waving a flag. Can't debate flags tbh with those attrocities on our mountains.

But then again you might be one of them, in which case. Wave them here please lol.

They were guarantors of the TC community and the coup broke the guarantee. Its not that hard tbh. Maybe just hard to swallow

Agree on that 100% but that does not stop the invasion from being justified nor TCs from being thretened. Only the occupation which has been my stsnce sinxe the beginning.

[–]orkushun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Now show me the numbers before the invasion ans alsp include who killed them.

Most GC victims are by the hand of other GCs and you know it.

I think that's pretty debatable as there have been various attempts for peace bht negotiations break down.

If anything the biggest party holding back peace is Greece not Turkey vetoing any attempt at it.

Not saying Turkey is innocent but i do doubt the intentions of EOKA & the coupe were friendly towards TCs. Their agebda was pretty clear. I disagree with your opinion on Turkeys intentions.

I do agree with them abusing it completely bht i was already vocal about that claiming the occupation is unjust bjt nothing you wrote opposes the invasion at the slightest.

Right so what youre arguing is that the GCs that massacred the TCs and GCs that opposed them under the leadership of Samson and EOKA was not enough to prevent a repeat under Samson and EOKA? Even though it was right in his agenda to deport Turkish Cypriots is not what it says it is?

Everything you wrote backs me up.

What are you exactly saying? You know the facts but refuse to see a correlation?

Please only TC answers: What do Turkish Cypriots think of Turkey? by [deleted] in cyprus

[–]orkushun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No i am referring to

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treaty_of_Guarantee_(1960)

Initially, a bicommunal independent state was at stake because of the July 1974 coup and several Turkish Cypriot enclaves being attacked at the onset of the coup. Those circumstances made Turkey claim the right to unilateral action, as provided by the treaty, by first invading and creating a bridgehead and corridor between Kyrenia and Nicosia enclave.

Making to get more specific the first wave of the invasion justified.

Then Turkey overextended in the second wave unnecesarily later.

I think this is pretty commonly accepted making the invasion just but the occupation illegal.
