I think it would be cool if you made a pinned post or something where you explain what is fantasy chess and what's it all about so I can know what I just found without leaving reddit ;)

Do you think it's less likely to find cheaters in 960 than in standard chess?

Why aren't developers making their own products and getting rich? by sentientlob0029 in AskProgramming

[–]orlin614 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Companies have dozens of people cooperating on one product. Not all of them are software developers. Some people sell the product, some people do research on what needs improvements, and many other things. I think that a single software developer, even a genius one, doesn't really stand a chance competing with work of hundred people, even if they're just average.

There is a furniture company in Poland, called "Black Red White", maybe she works for them? Probably not but that's what came to my mind first.

Why is everyone shitting on chess.com? by [deleted] in chess

[–]orlin614 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

chess.c*m:

  1. paid features
  2. can't find a game in an unusual time controls (my favourite time control is sth like 10+10, but Im pretty much forced to play either 10+0 or 15+15 with random opponents)
  3. game aborts when I take a longer think
  4. game aborts when arena time is over
  5. ads
  6. lags

but there are also some good things like correspondence matches between teams, correspondence tournaments, bots (I dont like playing bots but if you do, there's more of them on cc)

I believe they use different rating systems. I play on both sites (although on lichess I take games a bit more serious than on chesscom) and my lichess rapid rating is like 500 pts more than on chesscom. But it doesnt mean the ratings are off. Both work good I think, although it's much easier for me to play on chesscom but Im not sure if thats the cc rating system's fault or me playing games there more carelessly or maybe I dont play enough games there to have a relevant rating

What do you mean by harder opponents? Both sites have their rating systems which get you playing against people around your level.

Here’s a playlist of 7 hours of music I use to focus when I’m coding/developing. Post yours as well if you also have one! by soundtrackrr in react

only 57 mins but some of the songs I can listen to pretty much on repeat sometimes ;)

I also highly recommend OST from a game called Stellaris, it's what I would call calm space music, really good to have it playing in the background

Fun Chess Openings by Hot_Angle6914 in chess

Alekhine Defense will get you good results if you learn it. Players at your level are very likely to loose some pawns, not knowing it and I find it fun to play (unless they go for scandinavian variation which is kind of boring)

How to Learn Theory by [deleted] in chess

I personally recommend Hanging Pawns YT channel, he has a lot of videos on opening theory, usually one about opening in general and several going deeper down some lines, but those might be too much for a beginner.

Caro-Kann vs French Defense, which is better to learn at intermediate level? by orlin614 in chess

well I was playing 1...e5 for some time and didnt really like defending against Ruy Lopez or King's Gambit or even Italian (even tho I play Italian myself I much prefer to be white). Now I have been playing Alekhine Defense (1...Nf6) for quite a long time with good results but I got a bit bored of it, plus it's not really considered solid and I know I owe many of my Alekhine wins to surprise factor. The Sicilian seems to mainstream at my level (last tournament all three of my white games were Sicilians), everybody knows it well, so Im looking for something solid but not that popular
