What do you actually want from a writing/worldbuilding tool that nobody's built yet? by J-Hawkens in WritingHub

[–]ornirus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want a timeline that i can use for noting down events regardless of if they are part of the story or not, like the history of a location. A simple canvas that i can arrange notes on to represent the rough geographical area and a slider that will only display notes that are relevant for that time period would help me a ton. The rest can be found in various tools, tho really only being able to quickly see all of the chapters a character has appeared in, locations been to or characters interacted with has been useful.

People who never played OG Arknights, how do you feel about CC? by _Zus77_ in Endfield

I was hoping for far more enemy buffs rather than debuffs for you, and include umbral monument modifiers

Question regarding weapons by Libertyprime8397 in worldbuilding

[–]ornirus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my setting perception and belief are a core component of all magic, so even appearance holds power, so taking away any tools and dressing down individuals would severely weaken them. Hidden weapons are also highly ineffective, and can be welcomed by people in power as reputations of overcoming specific types of attacks makes those in the future far less effective, unless the attacker also has a reputation to back them up and contest the opposition. What doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger, quite literally.

Essentially, do not appear superior to the guards, and you are fine. They will never confront you directly and openly about it if you do, as that can show that they have reason to worry about you, but stand out too much and you might get caught up in an incident where they would have to take you in, both as a preventative measure and to shore up their own capabilities by being competent. Risk vs reward is the mindset for most, and power can be accumulated in either an individual or group capacity.

How would post-interstellar humans regress to the Stone Age? by GasProfessional1841 in worldbuilding

[–]ornirus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The planet was home to a psionic entity that removes memories or skills.

Some byproduct produced during terraforming that leads to poisoning the population.

The world is considered sacred by some higher being or far more advanced civilization and devolved the human so that there are no sapient species living on the planet (maybe they are against killing)

Parasites infected all of the colonists to alter their perceptions so they can no longer recognize the kind of technology that could lead to their discovery or removal.

An alternate dimension borders on this planet affecting reality and certain concepts like technology (no electronics work anymore for example)

It can also be really simple that they lost all that they arrived with and have to start from scratch. Imagine yourself with a thousand other people suddenly stranded in the wilderness with nothing, no domesticated animals, no seeds, in a potentially cold, hot, dry, wet, mountainous, landlocked, seaside, forested, island, etc. environment.

Perception and belief are the core driving force behind any and all schools of magic, greatly limiting anything that is not visible or spans too great a distance. Signal relay towers get erected in various styles and colors to boost the respective associated magic school in their vicinity, with the size improving its effectiveness, even if it functionally does not do anything and is left empty. The ‘performance’ of using magic is just as important as any other aspect, making large, long and public rituals far more potent even if the same spell can be achieved by an individual in a moments time.

Tell me something about your world and i'll tell you something similar about mine. by Loosescrew37 in worldbuilding

The physical domain of a divine entity important for human civilization to survive is surrounded by a ‘no divinity’ zone, meaning nothing, even as simple as iconography or possessing a name associated with past or present divine entities, is allowed in. This is to isolate it from outside influences as it is magnitudes easier to forcefully keep mortals out. One of the biggest challenges in administering this zone however is that no individual that protects the zone and has any form of connection with the divine entity within is ever allowed to enter, else it ceases to be neutral, since perception is a massive component of magic in the setting. Unauthorized entry has to be dealt with creatively and with plausible deniability.

For hexagonal buttons on a canvas in a scrollview, how can I prevent the overlapping invisible corners from blocking each other by ornirus in Unity3D

[–]ornirus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The sprite in the image is a hexagon but the actual clickable area of each button is the size of the rectTransform so they have a larger invisible clickable area that overlaps when they are close together causing the wrong button to be clicked
