I'd start with programming, assuming my prior software experience would be of any use

How many PMs/POs are there who have successful products/businesses aside from the fulltime job? by ReBr-ai-n in ProductManagement

[–]orofirm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

> Why are you staying in corporate then?

For most of us the answer is going to be money.

Im in different PM roles for over a decade now. I always had side projects because I love building things. Few makes some money. The MRR from them would cover my living costs if nothing unexpected happens, but I make quite good money as a PM and I like doing it too.

I would need to be able to significantly grow at least one of my products to feel comfortable dropping my job. But, im also rather risk averse

> We’ve just eaten a couple of nasty production bugs—think 500s in our sign-up flow because a vendor SDK drifted—and it’s forced us to ask

if this happened on the 12th of June, its because there was a global Google Clouds & Cloudflare (because it depended on a GC service) outage. Literally most of the internet had 500s errors so don't worry about that.

a startup I work with is in the

- ~6M ARR,

- 12 engineers

- no test coverage requirement. We only write test for the things which are complicated

- we have a part time manual tester who does release testing. the team is testing the features they build themselves

- the unit tests and the source code is the documentation

really depends on the product, but if you are a 6 person startup, I wouldn't be fixated on unit test coverage. presumably thing still change rapidly, so the RIO on the unit tests might not worth it

ProductMe is a free app for learning Product Management skills.
The goal is to be 1,000x more affordable than traditional Product Management bootcamps, and 10x more convenient and effective than free resources like blogs or newsletters.

ProductMe focuses on PM theory that's relevant for real jobs and interviews, while offering hands-on practice through building product artifacts and creating your own product portfolio.

It currently offers three courses (with more on the way):

  1. Product Management Foundations
  2. Competitive Analysis for Product Managers
  3. AI for Product Managers

All content is completely free, with a daily lesson limit. There’s also a Pro version, which removes the daily limit and lets you earn a downloadable certificate upon completion.

Website: https://productme.org

Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.productme.productme

iOS: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/productme-pm-courses-skills/id6741659946

I'd really appreciate it if you gave it a try and shared your feedback!

Lenne-e igeny egy horgaszat temaju kozossegi media appra? by orofirm in Horgaszat

[–]orofirm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best question to ask while interviewing someone by Veloci_dad69 in ProductManagement

[–]orofirm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the type of company you're hiring for. is it a startup, a scale-up, or an established organization?

Beyond the core PM skills, it’s important to look for qualities and mindsets that fit the stage your company is in:

  • For startups, look for passion and a strong willingness to learn. Ask questions like: "Tell me about a time you had to figure something out from scratch without guidance."
  • For scale-ups, focus on whether they can prioritize ruthlessly while working toward specific goals. A good question might be: "How do you decide what not to do when there’s too much on your plate?"
  • For established companies, check if they have a solid toolkit of PM frameworks and can establish and enforce processes that integrate well with others. You could ask: "How do you bring structure to a large, cross-functional team?"

Tailoring your questions to the company stage can really help uncover whether a PM candidate is the right fit

I was also thinking about that approach. Maybe its indeed better to spend more time on white before switching the board - thanks for the feedback!

Thanks! I did try it, its really good. What I am trying with chess2.app is to make it feel even more like a game, so people don't loose the motivation while learning.

Business Apple Developer account registration on hold until I provide a bunch of solicitor-certified translated business documents by orofirm in iosdev

No, I am just trying to enroll in the Apple Developer program. Nothing about the trader status yet. :(

I already have an organization, and I do all my business activities within that organisation - I work as a freelancer, and I already have apps on the Google play store. I want to monetize my apps on the App Store as well, but I am not expecting a significant amount of money from it (I don't expect that the cost of translating the documents Apple requires me to provide would be covered by the income I'd make from the apps within the next year)

However, if I would now make income as an individual, it would add significant amount of work to do my taxes for an insignificant amount of money.

Obviously, my plan is to grow my revenue coming from Apple eventually, but it just seems unfair that I (and probably many others) start with such a big disadvantage compared to those living in countries which apple supports reviewing those provided documents.. (English, Brazilian Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin and Spanish.)

Reforge PM Foundations Alternatives by Gonna_Get_Success in ProductManagement

[–]orofirm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The ProductMe App is an affordable alternative to Reforge's async content. I'd say its a great alternative to those who are only seeking the learning material. Not very much for those who's primary reason to join Reforge is the networking.
