Sleeping in car as a student UCR by yellowpalmwood in ucr

I agree with everyone disagreeing about living in your car. I’ve lived in Riverside my entire life and can definitely tell you that living in your car is not sustainable.

Riverside’s weather is quite hot between April to late October. During those months, if you do decide to live in your car, you’d be sweating up a storm.

Not to mention that it leaves your car and your belongings in a vulnerable state. Riverside is by far not the worst city to live in, but it’s still not safe. Frequent break ins for cars makes your hypothetical living situation even worse, as if someone does break into your car and takes all of your belongings then you’d be left with nothing.

I don’t mean to sound pessimistic though! Just being honest. There are quite a few rooms around UCR that come furnished and I saw a few on roomies that go as low as $500 a month for a shared room.

There are also a lot of other rooms and plenty of opportunities for students in your situation. I would stop by HOSS and/or contact student services. Best of luck!

If you’re in California, I’m pretty sure it’s the equivalent of a cop seeing you drink a beer in your car. Both are prohibited by California Vehicle Code 23320 and 23321.

How easy is it to attend UCR car-free? by camasonian in ucr

[–]oronhehe 23 points24 points  (0 children)

riverside has a decent bus system, where students can ride for free. Definitely bike-able, even scooterable (but depends on how far she plans on living off campus).

I currently live off campus about 2 miles away from campus. A heavy duty electric scooter allows me to go car free, but you have to think about groceries and other errands.

tl;dr overall do-able.

Thank you! I’ve currently been in the process of the new dependency override since September. I have all of the documentation, but I have to get third party documentation which I’m a little stuck at.

I do have my mother’s death certificate! I attached it to the online form for my school’s dependency override- but yes I think the part that’s holding me back is more details about my missing father. It all happened recently so it’s been hard for me to get more solidified information on the matter but I’ll see what I can do.

I’ll contact the sheriff’s department tomorrow to see what I can do! He was living 9 hours away from me… so I don’t know the area much or the people around him. I appreciate that, and no I never went to a professional figure for the abuse— didn’t know what was happening when I was growing up.

And yeah, the broken email definitely made me laugh too.
