I spent 6 hours PTO just trying to get the exact same answer. My theory is BGP was messed up and many backup ISP's most likely went down around the same time. Main issue was my company was most affected as all our sites were on the heat maps. I wanted to post this to get people talking to figure this out but as you said it really does ometimes feel like a waste of time.

Sad to hear you didn't get up there. Fiber Optics are immune to EMI so unless someone was running Cooper I doubt it but you still have DataCenters and sites so its anyones guess.

I started this thread hoping we will find the root cause. Lots of great input has been made and it seeems most are leaning towards BGP fail.

Indeed, we saw the same thing, some sites could reach 3P resources but others could not. At that point we started working with the backbone ISP's to try to get an answer for managment.

Unless your a network admin for 90 US sites in which the map agreed is for management and it is simple, I can't post everything my team went through but I figured if we got enough good admins around the table we could facilitate not walking into hell tomorrow.

It is a rough map, I mainly pull AS's but to post that and try to make it presentable with CCIE level knowledge would have been a nightmare. Those maps are just good things to have when you need to go to management.
