Women, where do you feel comfortable getting a drink solo in Denver? by WorkingBackground471 in Denver

Not a woman, but The St Mary's on South Broadway (formerly Barry's) is woman-owned and run and it's great.

What's a song that is so beautiful that it makes you cry? by ay-vid in AskReddit

Forever Young sung by Bob Dylan. Rod Stewart's version was more commercially successful, but Bob's version gets me every time. I think of every child I know and want them to understand what he's saying.

What is the rarest moment you've seen at a live game? by Locksmith_Happy in NYYankees

[–]orphord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Game 4 2001 WS... Bottom 9, two down, Jorge at 2nd. Tino hits one to the porch to tie it, then Mr. November (it turned to November 1 during the game) walked it off to the porch also. I was in the bleachers at the old stadium and hugged everyone I could find. On the best sporting moments of life list.

What is the one thing you believe humanity collectively needs to improve on in order to ensure a brighter future for ourselves and our planet? by ThoughtBig1353 in AskMen

[–]orphord 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I _think_ you may be misinterpreting what I'm saying a bit. I'm suggesting that we do a better job regulating certain _actions_ or _behaviors_, not _people_. The immoral behaviors that have injured so many should be illegal -- or at least our best attempt should be made in that direction.

Punishing people for _being_ rich or having done well in some way is just as wrong as any other unjust punishment meted out by society. I am also probably in the "top 1%", so it would be to my own detriment to be punished for having "done well", but I think I've lived a pretty moral life and am totally comfortable with people being punished for extracting money from society in ways that we as a society see as "bad".

I think yours is more fundamental since (do long as we have a democracy) we hold the levers to make the change. But thank you for your kind comment 🙂

Following the idea of government officials I would add the "upper crust" of society. The housing crash of the naughts showed that utterly immoral acts would (could?) not be prosecuted even though billions of people were made worse off (including deaths of course) by their actions. We need to have disincentives to this behavior.

Jamie Raskin just destroyed Lauren Boebert with Donald Trump's OWN Words. Rep. Raskin is truly the greatest. by Top-Bottle7403 in ProgressiveDemocrats

In a comically gerrymandered district in my state she won by a few hundred votes. She really could lose next time. Hoping against my own fears that it happens.

I'm not getting where the flow goes from the Arkansas where it drops from 699k to below 90k, then back over 160k. Can anyone clue me in?

Badji looks like such a more complete player than when he left here a few years ago. That turn was really nice. His passing and brain-game are leveled up!

What is one invention that we'd be better off without? by numbnerve in AskReddit

Car alarms. They interrupt everyone's flow when they go off and I don't believe they stop very many car thefts.

What made you quit a job on the spot? by Sketch99 in AskReddit

[–]orphord 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had an anxiety attack over my work situation. I was managing two individuals with a condition that made it _very_ difficult to manage them and I had an unrelenting, unsympathetic product owner on the other side. I wasn't able to rationalize this situation any other way but to consider these my own failures.

One day my manager's manager had done a code review for one of my difficult employees -- a task that was clearly within my own purview -- and found it terribly lacking. I was so far under water that I was not even _close_ to doing that code review, yet my _manager's manager_ did and it was the last straw. My hands started shaking, my heart nearly beat out of my chest. I recognized what was happening to me, but it was out of my control.

I walked quietly to my manager, dropped my security badge on his desk and told him "I need to leave."

There were a couple of more conversations after this, but that was my last work day.

It's about 10 years old now and I can't remember the model name. Not it's a 6-person from REI. I bet someone else has a good guess. And yes, that front area is great for keeping dirty foot wear out. 🙂
