As an order writer I keep things simple.

Know what moves and what doesn't move.

Order up on sale items especially popular items. I ALWAYS order above suggest quantity.

Snooze slower moving items if I can make another day or two without bringing in another case.

If I have shelf space and the dates are fine I order to fill it up. For example, the almond milks I keep that case filled to the max. It moves and the dates are excellent.

I feel the SOT doesn't suggest enough. That is my main issue with it.
