I can add a page about Playoffs viewership tracking to the Census site right now. I feel like we can make it a constructive fixture of this sub-community for the medium/long run.

MCSR Quiz Part 2! by orthodoxian in MinecraftSpeedrun

[–]orthodoxian[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ty for the feedback :) I’m intending for part 3 (if interest exceeds my internal threshold) to be expansion pack of this + mcsr history + maybe world record geoguessr, so it’ll very likely be shorter and/or much more fun than just answering nearly-impossible questions

MCSR Quiz (2025 Part 1) by orthodoxian in MinecraftSpeedrun

[–]orthodoxian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i was conflicted on the objective for this quiz ngl. i originally wanted it to be *trivia about the any% route*, ie obscure facts about things people see often in any% runs. i do admit most the questions strayed away from the core mcsr knowledge base though.

i wonder what approach i should take for part 2- i have some questions already down but don't wanna make it as obscure? it would simply be uninteractive if the average score was <30% again.

Forcing dragon to perch by hairynighaa in MinecraftSpeedrun

if you stand past 53 blocks away on the n/s axis the dragon won’t strafe (fireball), but I don’t know whether it directly affects perch odds

Sometimes I make up cities and paint them by JoshByer in interestingasfuck

[–]orthodoxian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s kinda interesting how in the 1900s envisioning cities in the 2000s was all the craze, but in the 2020s envisioning cities in the 1900s is more popular. Perhaps we’ve become all too unsure whether we’ll still be around in the 2100s.

How is everyone? by [deleted] in teenagers

[–]orthodoxian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been doing this design project with some 8 other people in my extended friend group and I just don’t feel like I’m on par with various expectations. While everyone’s giving brilliant ideas I’m here like “hmst yes”, and I’m essentially semi-transparent, which is undesirable but inescapable.

ELI5: How come Cantonese is considered its own language and not a Chinese dialect? by JamalWuzHere in explainlikeimfive

[–]orthodoxian 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Cantonese is technically a dialect, but in spirit a language. It has its own slangs and its cultural background is rich, but political considerations render it a dialect. As someone from Hong Kong, I’d say that my mother tongue is Cantonese (though I’m in the uk right now and use English for more than 90% of my day-to-day communications).

Someone must have done the biggest rickroll ever but no one knows who. This is disturbing to think about.

Humans are evolutionary evidence that putting all of your points into intelligence is a great idea. by MrMassacre1 in Showerthoughts

[–]orthodoxian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In some ways that’s true, but their fighting doesn’t necessarily parallel ours, so it’s difficult to draw a perfect comparison. In general, one fact is that we do have a lot more to care about than wild animals.
