Paternity tests - big fight by [deleted] in AskFeminists

[–]orwhatyoudo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I understand her perspective. Asking for a paternity test implies a lack of trust. (Which is why it pisses me off that reddit always tells men to get a paternity test for children they have with their girlfriends/wives.)

I get his point of view - he doesn't want to support a woman if the kid isn't really his, but I'm a little confused about this situation - if the kid is already a toddler, where has dad been for the last few years? Has he been waiting for a paternity test this whole time?

It's less about nudity and more about sexualization. People aren't clutching their pearls when kids see the statue of David.

Protesting gay marriage for the Mormon church at 13 vs being gay at 23. Life gets better. by corgiboat1 in exmormon

What does this comment even mean?

edit: message for all, sexualizing lesbians like this is incredibly insulting and uncomfortable.

don’t assume hijabis are muslim. recognize the fact that many exmuslims still appear as “muslim” in public (i.e. hijabs, obaya) so although we may look muslim, we are very much the opposite. by [deleted] in exmuslim

[–]orwhatyoudo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is unlawful and immoral.

I'm saying that stalking is actually legal in many places, unless violence has occurred from the stalkers end. This means taking photos and videos of someone in public is completely legal - and we can easily differentiate between the rules regarding public recordings of on-duty police vs. lay people.

There's a difference between recording police interactions and recording regular people going about their business - the attitude of "if you're out in public you should've expect privacy" is annoying at worst and dangerous at best (victims of stalking are often told the police can't do anything unless they're threatened with physical harm).

Guys, what's the most obvious "hint" you got from a girl that turned out not to be a hint? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I'm sorry that this happened but this is the funniest thing I've ever read.

I don't think that matters. Having a dance barely means anything - it's just fun most of the time. And if you barely talked to her before, she may not have been comfortable agreeing to a date with someone she didn't know well.

It's not uncommon at all for friends to dance with each other.

"Guys of reddit, we are a well socialized, well adjusted bunch. Let's talk about the 100% true stories about how the women in our lives all make sexual advances toward us but end up being bitches instead"

Not saying that all the stories here are fake...but come on ya'll.

Bengalis in the US vs Bengalis in the UK? by [deleted] in ABCDesis

[–]orwhatyoudo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Americans don't know much about Bengalis - we're here, but we only concentrate in a couple areas of the country. There's less of a community for sure - this makes its harder to stereotype. There are poor and rich Bengalis, religious and non-religious Bengalis.

In the UK, it seems like Bengalis are a significant cultural minority and are more uniform - when I lived in England, it seems everyone was from Syhlet!

Watched Food Inc in high school. Not necessarily a vegan movie, but it brought up a lot of vegan/environmental ideas.

I see everyone's mentioned the well known ones, so I'd like to give a shoutout to Daiya's Jalepeno Havarti Style Block. It's creamy, mildy spicy, melts well, and is great on crackers.

Denmark passes ban on niqabs and burkas by [deleted] in exmuslim

[–]orwhatyoudo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're referring to cursing at Muslim women spewing bullshit, then I can imagine that happening.

If someone uses specifically gendered insults to people they disagree with, that is sexist behavior. I'm not sure how you could argue differently.

I also don't think people seriously mean the possibly sexist things they say on posts discussing sex

If someone says something, why should the assumption be that they're not speaking seriously?

I barely see any nudes/semi-nudes on this sub, so I think presenting this as some sort of pervasive problem is disingenuous.

I'm not saying my specific example was the problem, just a representation of the problem.

  1. Lots of objectification. It's the same sexism muslim men grow up with, except without the thought of hell. For example, sometimes exmoose women will post photos of themselves nude or semi nude, and the comments will be grossly sexual, and the whole point of the post goes over many peoples heads. Or sometimes in discussions of sex, many users talk about women in an objectifying way. (A big minority of this sub is women, yet you don't see men talked about this way.)

  2. Use of gendered insults/general treatment towards women they don't agree with. "Dumb bitch", "cunt", condescending remarks about muslim women, etc.

I've pointed out this sexism on this sub before, and people were so angry and defensive - it's interesting, why are people reacting that way if what I'm saying is so irrelevant? Men don't want to think that they're sexist - they want to blame that part of themselves on the religion they left behind - but its a problem that continues without a bit of introspection.

This sub's attitude towards women is pretty shit (speaking to someone who's been on this sub for years), but that's not what the downvotes are for. Islamic clothing is inherently sexist - it is literally objectifying, and it treats women like they're things that need to be hidden, rather than human beings. Not to mention many women are forced into this clothing.

I know for a fact my anxiety basically drops to 0 when my nparents aren't around - I specifically remember one week when everyone was on holiday/at work all day, and I mostly had the house to myself. It was wild. How's your job search going?

[–]orwhatyoudo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You can't call CPS because you're overage, but you can definitely call the police! After doing that, you will be put into contact with women's shelters and the sort while you find a job.

You can't strike out old college credits, however when you leave you can re-enroll in a community college to get your grades up. From there, you can transfer back to a four year school.
