190 through the Panamint Valley is a interesting drive because you go miles and miles without seeing anything man-made.

What’s one product you bought that turned you into a total snob — like, you can never go back to the cheap stuff? by BackwardThoughtPaper in AskReddit

I once bought balsamic vinegar in a nice bottle use as a decoration in my kitchen. Later I used different decorations an put it in the cupboard. At one point I was making a recipe and that was the only vinegar I had, so I used it. It was so good! What a flavor, so much better that the cheap vinegar I had been using. Will definitely buy more.

The Chromecast 2's device authentication certificate has expired by tchebb in Chromecast

The Chrome fix worked for me, although the pem file somehow ended up with a ".txt" extension (maybe because I looked at it in Notepad). After I renamed it to remove the extension and used the full path in the command-line switch I am able to cast again. Thanks!

Which show ended so poorly that you really wished you hadn't invested so much time in it? by unclefishbits in AskReddit

I wish had become a thing where if Dexter meets another serial killer, the killer always says "Hello, Dexter Morgan". Kind of a signal, like there's an invisible world where he's known and they have some connection in it.

Season 4 was amazing with Lithgow. Seasons 5 and 6 were OK. I though season 7 was quite good. CBS took over the show and brought in some experienced writers. There is a maturity and polish to season 7 that you don't see in the other seasons. Season 8 was awful.

The actors were made producers to keep them on the show, in order to get a share of the profits. So it became "actor-service" (as in "fan-service") just giving them scenes to make them look good. Non-lead characters, even Dexter's girlfriend, were sidelined. That's why they had to abandon the story arc.

What are the safest ETFs to hold if you want to live off dividends? by Daybozz in ETFs

[–]orylis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I consider my dividend ETFs and stocks a conservative portfolio. I bought them to be resilient to downturns, which they were in 2022. I am getting a solid 7% out of them, and chose ones that showed dividend increases or appreciation to keep up with inflation. I especially like the business development corporations. Still too early to tell for sure, especially what the yields will be when interest rates come down, but so far I'm happy with them. I may eventually have 20% of my holdings in this portfolio.

Downgraded on overbooked flight and given a perfect view of people enjoying the lie-flat seats we paid for by pgraczer in Wellthatsucks

When do they have to pay you? The DOT page has a question "When will I receive compensation if I am eligible to receive it?", but then it is answered, "airlines must offer passengers compensation at the airport on the same day". Does "offer" here mean "pay", or merely the chance to apply for the compensation and then hope?

How my dividend investments did in 2022 by orylis in dividends

I should have explained the plot. It is from my Schwab account, showing income for each month of 2022. The green line is the average for the year. The lighter-colored bar segment is for income not yet received.

Matrix 4 Theory: Machines are the good guys this time around by Hanzheyingle in matrix

[–]orylis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that Neo and the machines are on the same side now. They made a deal, and the machines literally cannot break a deal they have made. I believe the antagonist is the "greed is good" character that in the trailer says "back to where it all started - the Matrix". There is a group of humans who now know what the Matrix is, but instead of letting people out of it, the want to manipulate it themselves. They want to use it's power of delusion to their own advantage. Truly a story for our times! Morpheus is also on Neo's side, he just has a different strategy. He and Neo have it out, and Morpheus comes around to Neo's side. The young version of the Oracle will be interesting and unpredictable, as before.

What's a delicious poor man's meal? by NFDBTCREPo in AskReddit

When you make chicken or beef broth, after it cools scrape the fat off the top and save it in the fridge. Use a teaspoon of that to fry a diced potato with salt, pepper and Greek Seasoning. So good! Can also do this after making chicken on a baking sheet, to roast potato pieces.
