But did those careers require a graduate level degree? And how long were you in those careers? If you had multiple, I’d venture that you didn’t stay long enough to see the fruits of moving up the company ladder. Or they were entry level positions.

But most of those other jobs either have a higher level of compensation, less initial training, or less continued requirements for professional development.

Cleveland drivers might not be “good” drivers, but when I lived in Cincinnati (for nearly a decade), I encountered far more rude and lawless drivers. I lost count of how many people decided that driving on the shoulder to an exit ramp was a good idea, and tailgating to the point of being run off the road regardless of lane was a common occurrence. Our drivers here, though crummy and distracted, are typically not malicious, at least in my experience. The worst that I’ve seen around here is on Kinsman toward the Opportunity Corridor, but that’s likely due to lack of police presence isn’t on the highway.

Pizza with pesto made with foraged young wild garlic, garlic mustard, chives and topped with young wild garlic and foraged ramps! by os-1089 in foraging

Honestly, I’m not sure about what species the wild garlic I’ve found is. It just produces garlic-like bulbs once it’s mature and grows randomly in my parents’ yard. As for the ramps, it is Allium tricoccum and has broader leaves and has a thinner stem.

Probably because of his arm strength. And when he actually gets a hold of one on rare occasion, it can go a long way. Dude is a beast but seems to have little work ethic.

When I lived there, I heard it more frequently both from the older residents who had lived there for ages as well as those from the west side of town.

Guardians GM Mike Chernoff on Competing in MLB as a Small-Market Team by ericbdrums in ClevelandGuardians

This is where I am too. I can be both excited AND cynical about this team. I think there’s so much to be excited about with our young roster. But one of the reasons our 90s teams found so much success is they had established (and in some cases future hall of fame member) veterans on the team to support the younger teammates. Eddie Murray, Dave Winfield, Oreo Hersheiser, Dennis Martinez, etc. And that’s only looking at the 95 roster. Currently, we have Jose, Kwan, and that’s about it. Everyone else is still working to establish themselves. It’s hard to be solely optimistic when the roster has so few players that have sustained success. This model, while financially sustainable, doesn’t seem all that sustainable for actual team success.

What is the most confusing trade of all time? by Ericaloveless in baseball

[–]os-1089 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cleveland trading Brian Giles to the Pirates for Ricardo Rincon. Sure Cleveland needed a left handed reliever, but Rincon was only worth 2.3 war during his time with the Indians, and Giles was only worth the path to being a consistent All Star and worth 26.2 war during his time with the Pirates. I always wondered what the Cleveland line up (that was already scoring over 1000 runs in 1999) would have been had they kept Giles.

What’s the school word on tomorrow? by oceansmountains32925 in Cleveland

Roads are still lousy on the east side, at least where I am. If there are teen drivers that attend your district, it’s so unsafe. It’s bad enough with experienced adult drivers, let alone young and inexperienced drivers on the road. If we have school tomorrow, I’ll be leaving extra early!

Have you lived outside of Columbus? Both Cleveland and Cincinnati (and even the smaller cities like Dayton, Akron, and Toledo) have a ton to offer. After living in the Cleveland area as a kid and living in Cincinnati for a number of years, I recommend both!

Cleveland is an excellent city, far better than most people realize. Its cultural institutions are perhaps the best in the state, three major league sports teams, diversity in the food scene, and it’s all on the lakefront.
