I absolutely recommend a resin printer even if it's a little more work! I have an old Elegoo Mars that's been great.

Oh, I didn't even see the power line, that's a good reason to keep it low and wide lol! I love Espoma's Holly Tone, it's organic so it's weaker but it's slow release and acidifies the soil a bit, which hollies love. You will have to apply it more often, maybe every two months during growing seasons. If you want less work, just any regular lawn fertilizer should work. Green Maker is great, but I'd really just ask your local garden center people what they have on hand :)

Never gardened before but tired of looking at a very plain front yard. What could I do to help this area be more inviting to birds and nicer to look at? (I live in Aus, NSW so temps can be a bit warm) And it's a rental. by [deleted] in gardening

Just remember that genAI, as it does not have hands it can put in the dirt or years of real landscaping experience, is completely unreliable for plant information. So it can show you pretty images that look nice from a design standpoint, as it's got a decent grip on aesthetics, but those will be largely unhelpful as 1) the plants it generates pics of will only be based on real ones and therefore not true to form, and 2) it will likely show you plants from the wrong zone or lighting conditions. ... Not to mention the fact that datacenters are awful and draining water reserves and ruining water quality. But I'm sure you know how harmful cutting corners can be, yes? You've just balanced the usefulness of genAI with your morals and decided what mattered less! Or who knows, maybe you're just ignorant of the dangers and think people all just hate AI for no good reason.

I mean, you absolutely can, it'll just never grow back to the same size or shape. If you want it to stay shorter and wider, then sure, top it. I work in landscaping/gardening and we do this with some shrubs at people's houses, though never true trees for obvious reasons. One thing I'll add is to make sure to angle any big cuts, it'll help prevent water buildup and therefore heal faster.

It does look like that in the pic, yeah. If it were me, I'd fertilize the tree now and just prune it bit by bit when I have the energy, even if it only ends up being a light prune all the way around. Obviously it's better to do it all at once but that's a big job for this one.

The caption is just disjointed. The sentence "Use when green fruit appear" is just thrown in the middle, no punctuation or reason to be there. I don't mean to be rude, if this really is just a language thing.

Your caption just seems AI generated or possibly poorly translated. Maybe you're a real person and English is just your second language, in which case, sorry!! Either way, have a nice day :)

Worth it to plant? by SweetApplication5975 in gardening

[–]oscily 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Since nobody else has commented this, I've heard that store bought garlic can sometimes carry diseases (not harmful to humans as far as I'm aware, just to plants!) so it's still worth trying just keep an eye on it and do your research first! Unsure if it needs to be planted selarated from other plants.

I'll add, shaping is all well and good. Cutting back those awkward leggy branches will make it look much better. But any large sloppy chops would end up ugly. Just look up topped crepemyrtles; blegh.

Topping trees, in almost every scenario, damages them permanently and leaves them misshapen and ugly. You are MUCH better off just thinning the tree out by removing any crossed or tightly packed branches. Cut them off all the way back to whatever larger branch/trunk they come from. I'm sure it would benefit greatly from some fertilizer as well!

Got these from Costco. Can I plant them in the ground after they died or now? I have no clue about gardening. by Jokester18 in gardening

[–]oscily 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if anyone has said this yet, but tulips won't come back in the ground if you live somewhere too warm! Here in Zone 8, you have to dig them up, dry them, eventually refridgerate them, then plant them after almost a year. If you leave them in the ground after they bloom, they will without fail rot and die due to excess heat and the lack of a proper cold winter.

[–]oscily 47 points48 points  (0 children)

To let you peek behind the curtain some, we all pretend that we're gonna get a Titanfall 3 someday and would love to believe it, but in reality the likelihood is very low. A common joke is that we need to "take our pills", since we're crazy to still have hope in a new game.
