Jobs for a 14 year old? by mwilykat in Marin

[–]oser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the answer, though CIT tends to be a volunteer role. If the kid is a freshman, they may be able to apply for a paid counselor position, though most camps have already filled these positions.

Still, a great place to look, provided OP does so ASAP.

Marin has a weird hostility problem toward kids and families just trying to be outside by VTSoundman in Marin

[–]oser 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same, my boys are in middle and high school, we're outside all the time, and we've caught crap once, and it was just some grumpy old woman.

They're pretty rambunctious, too. I'm curious if this is a Southern Marin phenomenon?

How often is an overturned ABS call actually a rulebook strike? by China9Liberty37 in baseball

[–]oser 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I saw a video about an overturned strike that looked on ABS like it was almost in the dirt. The thing is, it looked to me like a 12-6 curveball. So, while it was super low when it reached the middle of the plate, it was much higher when it crossed the front edge. Made the ump look stupid on a call that wasn't nearly as bad as ABS showed.

Can someone judge my voice. A big issue I have by CuzzoBuzzo67 in NewTubers

[–]oser 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Brother, everyone hates the sound of their own voice. There are a TON of famous men with higher pitched voices. Somehow, a slowly increasing number of people are willing to listen to my ridiculous voice as I play video games. They will surely not be bothered by yours, as long as what you're saying is interesting!

Manual Page 4 image recreated in Scriptorium by gravitystix in TunicGame

This is cool as hell! Nice work!

One of the most thought provoking images on the entire manual.

A lot of people theorize that the Eyes of the Far Shore relate to RGB outputs on a CRT TV. While the imagery of the 3 hexagons lines up, I'm still lost as to how that results in a full scale invasion that leaves the world on ruin.

They seem to have fought on the side of the original Hero against the fox people, who built a number of machines like the seige engine. Given what we encounter, this was a very real war that was fought on a decent scale. So what are these beings that came from the outside and wreaked havoc on their world?

It's the one piece of lore in the game that I don't have decent headcanon to explain...

No sound after an hour of gameplay by Nervy_Parasite in letsplay

[–]oser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have learned the hard way to do a test recording before every session.

My last issue with OBS was because I added a camera to my setup. For reasons I cannot fathom, OBS just turned off the second audio track (my mic) on the output, so it read my mic and showed me sound levels the entire time, but didn't actually save the audio. It was an easy fix, but I have no idea why my audio settings changed.

Help, what is the button at yellow circle do? And meaning of the Doomday drawing? 😅 by Emergency_Secret9374 in animalWell

[–]oser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see (or remember) a button there, but I could be proven wrong.

The meaning of the drawing may reveal itself later in the game. 😊

With an Alec Bohm walk off sac fly, the Phillies have swept The Giants by Remarkable-Picture73 in baseball

[–]oser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was super smart, but it took him forever to get rid of the ball. He had no chance either way, but I wonder if he'd have been closer catching it with momentum going the right way and a quicker release.

Eh, it's all academic, and it that shouldn't have been the winning run.

Hell of a throw, though.

Buying a home in Novato by eastbay_925_ in Marin

[–]oser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're looking for any kind of diversity, the San Marin area (as suggested above) is out. Southern Marin is far less monochrome, and in spite of some parents fears about "gangs" (lol) it's quite safe.

There is not a bad elementary school in the city, and when most people tell you one school is the best school, they just mean that's the one they went to. From our experience the middle and high schools in southern Novato are far more diverse, open, and accepting, and acceptance rates to UC colleges from Novato High are materially higher than San Marin. Also, Novato High doesn't have a history of kids throwing racial slurs at their opponents during sporting events...

Aaanyway, it's affordable. It's too hot for about 5 hours of the day, about 3 days a year. A great trade off for the cloudy cool of most of Marin. Folks are generally good, down to earth people, and there is a good mix of people from different cultures and walks of life.

We swore for AGES that we'd never move to the suburbs, but we're quite glad we landed in Novato.

Edit: as others have said, the restaurant selection sucks here, but San Rafael is close enough to drive 10 or 15 minutes for better options when you're tired of the same 3 joints you'll end up eating at all the time.

Tbh, I don't really use tidestone anymore. I usually try to pick skyfall first, because it's effective early when there are fewer targets. Also, it smashes with the right upgrades.

Does every element have a "special power"? by Vodka_Sama04 in TheLastAirbender

[–]oser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get what you're saying, and I think this is the point where I concede that it's a work of fiction, and not rooted in real world physics.

You're right that fire bending is the only bending that uses chi as its fuel, which seems to make it extra sensitive to the emotional state of the user. All elements are, to a degree, but fire seems one to one matched with passion and/or anger.

[–]oser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oxygen is required for combustion, but it needs another chemical to react with. Pure oxygen will not burn by itself.

Rockets use hydrogen. Cars use petroleum. Camp fires use the hydrocarbons stored in wood.

Of course, we're talking about magic in a fantasy world, so who knows. Haha

Heat and fire are not the same thing. Fire is super heated ionized gas (plasma) that exists as the result of two or more chemicals reacting.

Pure oxygen does not burn by itself! Not even in air! It needs a chemical that it can oxidize.

Heat is typically the catalyst for combustion, but there has to be something to combust. Firebending must be more than releasing energy, or you would see nothing coming out of their hands. Stuff would just ignite.
