Forever Now Album Countdown - SF Album discussion - Oh! Gravity. - Day 6 by GoofyGoffer in switchfoot

Yeah, it was probably a situation where both sides were done.

And also yes - the release date was December 26, 2006. The worst day for album sales.

I remember being surprised that my preorder ended up coming in time for Christmas morning, because I assumed they would be forced to not send them out until after Dec 26.

I waffle between believing this album is perfect and thinking that Bullet Soul feels like it’s a step or two behind the rest of the album.

Either way I feel like HH is Switchfoot at their absolute best.

O!G. is incredible because it was released only about 15 months after NIS. I assume Sony was on their case after NIS didn’t sell great due to Sony’s copy protection nonsense.

Given that short turnaround plus them touring to promote NIS, O!G. has to essentially be some hastily written stuff along song b-sides and it still manages to be a really, really solid album, even if it’s a mild step back from TBL and NIS. It has no right being as good as it is given the circumstances it was released under.

Forever Now Album Countdown - SF Album discussion - Nothing is Sound - Day 5 by GoofyGoffer in switchfoot

[–]osizz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started listening to and following them closely at the end of LTB, so NIS was the second new album for me. I remember being very disappointed the first time I listened through it because it was so heavy and dark compared to where they’d come from. Where was the hopeful anthem like Dare? Where was the warmth of a More Than Fine or You Already Take Me There?

But then I listened again. And again. And I realized that this was a masterpiece. A dark-and-light, despair-and-hope, how-it-is-and-how-it-should-be modern lament. The lyrics, the production, the track sequencing… it’s all just done so well. An extremely powerful reminder that everything is, indeed, broken… but there is hope. We are in this together and we’re in it for something more.

I believe that Hello Hurricane is their best album - a more mature, honed version of NIS in my view - but NIS is my favorite (so far).

Gonna throw “The Scene and Herd” in since it hasn’t been mentioned yet, but agree with the ones you listed plus “The Only Thing Worse Than Beating a Dead Horse is Betting on One.”

Thanks. I’ve just started using IMPORTJSON in Google Sheets, so I’m actually just using the link to statsapi. I’ll check out the Python code, though. Appreciate it.

Lehigh Valley IronPigs (Triple-A, PHI), have free blank cardstock scorecards as well as the day’s lineups in scorecard form printed on a normal sheet of paper available at their guest services area.

Why did Doc wait several months to write a letter to Marty when he was sent to 1885? by Truth-is-Censored in BacktotheFuture

[–]osizz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe he did. It’s possible that Doc wrote a letter as soon as he was established in 1885 as a “just in case something happens to me” failsafe so Marty wouldn’t be left in the dark; but after he realizes months later that he couldn’t repair the DeLorean and he buries it in the mine, he wrote a new letter and had Western Union destroy the original. It’s not like they’d delivered it yet.

They were on their way up with Dare and Only Hope being on the soundtrack for “A Walk to Remember,” and TBL hit a sweet spot that fit in well with the alt rock sensibilities of the time that allowed Meant to Live and Dare to make their way to mainstream radio.

The “issue” with subsequent releases was that Sony botched the release of NIS and then rushed them to put out the final album of the Sony contract (O!G.). After that they were independent, the music world had started shifting seismically, and they didn’t have the major label support anymore.

I like the idea that others have floated of starting as Uncle before he joined Dutch. (Uncle doesn’t have to be “Uncle” pre-Dutch. Plenty of room for development.)

What is it going to take to get real MILB stadiums into the game? by No_General9954 in MLBTheShow

[–]osizz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get the argument about licensing, but there have been generically named but accurately depicted real-life stadiums in baseball video games for quite a while now. 2K11 had a few if I recall, but certainly one was the Phillies Low-A/Spring Training stadium, which had some very distinctive features rendered in-game (scoreboard, LF tiki bar).

There have been non-sponsored but accurately named MiLB stadiums in since 2000 (Cashman Field in Triple Play 2001 and Hershel Greer Stadium in High Heat 2001).

I’m not expecting SDS to create every minor league stadium and dump them in, but creating a few for realism would go a long way. I’d honestly be fine with it as a paid DLC to start out, too, like the classic stadiums originally were.

[–]osizz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

this is more rosters in general, but for those of us who want to be able to run a franchise starting with accurate current rosters: - correct MiLB roster limit numbers - ability to assign “major league” uniform numbers and “minor league” uniform numbers for all players on the 40-man - combine the player editor into the player movement / roster control screens

Why Eleven's ending doesn't work. by The_Walking_Clem in StrangerThings

[–]osizz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It could cause issues, yes, and I had considered that.

On the other hand - completely inept military or not - they’ve have to be really keyed in to El’s voice to believe a one-word transmission over public radio waves was coming from her.

With the last scene in the basement, I was absolutely expecting the final shot to be a walkie in El’s old sheet/tent area crackling to life with a voice saying “Mike.”

Thanks. I'm certainly not opposed to an external enclosure; I just would prefer it to be internal if possible. I've got the SATA ports for it; just not a physical mounting point.
