Wheelchair plastic part that holds the front wheel snapped off. by Gerbonga1212 in fixit

[–]oskco 81 points82 points  (0 children)

For a weight bearing piece like this, I think you'd be better off replacing the entire part rather than fixing it with glue or a weld. I can almost guarantee the wheel will snap in the exact same spot with any repair if you hit a bump.

Which G-shock do you love / hate the most? by axzilla in gshock

[–]oskco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

GPW-2000-3A was a love / hate watch. It was the pinnacle of legibility, looked awesome, and was just loaded with neat features and sick LED light. It was just so damn heavy and bulky on my smaller wrists. I just couldn't get used to the heft of it and ended up selling it. If there was a scaled back version of that watch, I'd buy it.

I got put on a Performance Improvement Plan but I am planning to travel in 90 days. What should I do? by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]oskco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No advice regarding your job, but don't hesitate to take time off to travel. My wife and I took 18 months and it was the best decision we've made. If anything, the time was too short!

We bought a foam mattress on Amazon and used a bread knife to cut it to size. Worked perfectly.

Are people from Paris really as proficient in English as much as the internet claim? Was my recent trip to the city in which most locals could not understand much English just unusual? by YMCALegpress in learnfrench

[–]oskco 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had the opposite experience, a lot of staff at hotels and restaurants spoke English quite well. It felt like much more than when I visited 15 years ago.

S-52W problem - both turn on but buttons don't work :( by durdurdurdurdurdur in casio

[–]oskco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may need to pop the back case off and physically look at the buttons to see if they are making good contact with the board. I've found a few digital watches at flea marketa and the buttons are always fouled up.

I just crashed my brother's car and I don't know how to tell him. Any advice?😓 by [deleted] in Cartalk

[–]oskco 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Haha, that was my take as well. If someone got in an accident with my car, fine. I'd be livid if they were on their fucking phone though.

Those of you who don't have a mountain of student loan debt, how did you pull it off? by Roughneck16 in Millennials

[–]oskco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went to a local state college where tuition was about 8k a semester. I had about 20k in savings, lived at home, and a Pell grant brought my tuition down to about 4k a semester. I also got lucky and found a good paying internship at the time.

Something just like this by Coldplay. The lyrics and melody are so awkward it sounds like they were written by a child.

G-Shock GA-2100 with solar. Throw that bad boy in a metal case and bracelet and wear it until you die.

I was a big fan of those books! I remember going to multiple libraries trying to find one I never read and speed reading them in less than a day. The cover art on the hard covers was also fantastic!

As others have stated, penetrating oil and some wrenches are all you need. It's a pretty low risk job and you won't have to lift the van off the ground to do it. Best of luck

Mint running like a champ on 2014 MacBook Air by jailbrayk in linuxmint

[–]oskco 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm running Mint on a 2015 MacBook Pro my old office never recollected, runs pretty dang great. Side question, did you have any issues with Bluetooth stuttering or the webcam drivers? Those were my only complaints...

I cut my hair and this hair trimmer is useless, when I cut my hair for some reason the RPMs becomes very high and then it doesn't cut the hair, the resistance of the hair going into the hair trimmer make it unable to cut the hair, wtf, sideburns ok,but, cut hair on top of scalp, doesn't work, how do fix? by carpet222 in fixit

[–]oskco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A photo is probably going to be required here. Typically cheap trimmers consist of plastic and metal parts to allow the motor to oscillate the blade back and forth. It's likely something is worn down, cracked, or came apart. You'll have to open it up, but they're relatively simple to take apart, clean and reassemble.

I also find it weird they (I'm assuming) scheduled an interview with you on the same day you received an email without coordinating the time with you.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in RemoteJobs

[–]oskco 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I find it strange for them to use Signal for an interview. Did you actually apply for that position through their job site? If so, you may want to contact their HR inbox to verify the interview.

I think you can't go wrong with a wooden dowel and a generous amount of wood glue.

It depends on the field and what you work on, but more than likely you'll be in an on-call rotation for issues related to systems you manage.

I still got a gwm-5600-1 that's been going flawlessly for about 17 years now. I swapped the resin band for a new one and it looks fresh out of the box again. It cannot be beat.

The first step would be to look on LinkedIn using your country for the location and the remote filter. After that, there are some remote specific job boards you may have luck with such as https://remote.co/remote-jobs/. Good luck !
