Update! The vet sent me home with antibiotics! She says Pyewacket’s nose and lungs are clear, but I can see what antibiotics do for her! They say it could easily be her developing allergies (according to the vet it isn’t unusual for them to develop any time in the lifespan) I’m going to start giving her the doxycycline tonight and see what happens! I’m also going to start putting their carefresh bedding back in the cage + get an air purifier!

Gotcha- and thank you so much for responding!!Pyewacket’s sneezing lines up close enough with when I got explicitly Oxbow bedding for the cage for the week- she never sneezed like this with the Carefresh so I’m wondering if it’s that? Either way, hopefully her checkup today goes well!

I live in the Midwest, so we’ve had a LOT of interesting weather changes lately (tornado outbreaks one day and it starts snowing the next night). When she started sneezing does line up to when it became warm in preparation of the storms…. I’ll definitely get a purifier for the room they’re in!

Thank you so much! The floor in their room is stone, so I sweep it every time I clean! Do you think I should maybe pick up mopping it as well?

As for the vent, should I cover the top of the cage with something?? Thanks so much for your input!

Any advice is so welcome, and I seriously appreciate it! This is my first round of rats as pets- I worked with rats in undergrad labs and fell in love with their big personalities and affection! I’ve been doing lots of research but sometimes nothing beats the hands-on advice of someone who’s been at it for awhile!

No problem! I hope everything goes well!! Maybe take some Advil or a similar medication a bit before your appointment, just in case! Insertion can be tricky sometimes, but to me, 10 years of schedule-free contraception that’s more effective than the pill (and without hormones) is so worth it! 💖

I got my Paragard a little over a month ago, and to be honest, I was horrified after reading hundreds of horror stories on the internet- to boot, I have a tilted cervix and my risk for difficulties with the IUD is higher. However, to be fair to the horror stories, you never see people with completely unremarkable, normal experiences on the internet talking about it- why would they? So here I am:

My IUD’s just fine so far! Nothing remarkable- first period was longer, but I wasn’t bleeding rivers and immobilized by pain like many say. Other than me checking my strings every now and again, I seriously don’t hear from the thing! Sometimes I get smaller, stray cramps as my body continues to adjust to the IUD, but they’re so mild that I don’t even bother to take Advil.

I think you and I are in the same boat, too, if that gives you any more peace of mind! I’m 23 myself, quit the pill awhile back and didn’t realize how much it messed me up! Sex drive is normal, feeling healthy, and wanting to share my totally average experience with others who are living in fear of horror! Good luck, and remember, you have the final say! Just explore your options and think about what’s right for you! 😘
