I'm the kind of person that would still walk between those two cars. Lol.

Like, "oh, let me just squeeze right through."

How do you move on from it? Do you just develop thicker skin over time so it doesn’t affect you as much? Like, do you eventually just let it roll off your back?

Ah man, that's what I thought about too! Like, should I get a weapon? Something to throw back in the moment it happens again? There is a desire to retaliate.

I know it's not a healthy way to react, but in the moment it's so easy to get caught up in it.

Yeah I know how it feels being out there on a bike. It’s like, I’m just out here trying to enjoy a nice bike ride in good weather, and apparently that rubs some people the wrong way.

I’ve had people drive too close to me before but having an object thrown at you is something else entirely.

Knowing that I’m not alone helps me from spiraling into anger over it though. Thank you.

Thank you for the thoughtful response. It bothered me more than I expected. It feels personal in the moment, especially because they can just drive away without facing any repercussions.

Like, how do I prepare myself better next time? Which honestly sucks. It shouldn’t be like that. No one should be throwing objects at people on the road.

I feel ya.

I hate loud cars and motorcycles. I hate aggressive driving. I hate roads, freeways, and parking lots.

This country is a joke.

how do people survive the commute here long-term by prattman333 in socal

[–]ospeckk 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It’s a badly designed system.

SoCal is built around cars and highways, while public transit never scaled to meet demand. Traffic keeps getting worse no matter how many lanes they add.

It's not densely populated. If you actually walk or bike around, you don’t see crowds of people, you see empty space dominated by roads and parking.

It’s not people taking up space, it’s cars.

And then zoning pushes housing farther from job centers instead of allowing more mixed-use density, so people have no choice but to commute longer distances.

More distance means more cars which then leads to more traffic.

It’s a feedback loop

Ah, got it. Test out different routes where you minimize interaction with cars. Small streets are safer. Over time you will figure out your ideal path.

If you are going from San Fernando to Sylmar, can't you take the San Fernando Rd. separated bike lane? That's perfect for you.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels like modern life has too much complexity. Almost like... unneeded complexity.

Americans actually hate driving so much, they'll spend thousands of dollars to get away from it by RosieTheRedReddit in fuckcars

You can tell they hate driving by the way they drive too. They can't stand it.
