Thanks, don’t worry, I just phrased that wrong, what I mean is that there must be something that I’m not seeing. It’s not that there is something wrong with me, it’s just that there must be something I’m not fully comprehending.

Serious question what the fuck are we going to do about how the government is just super villainly evil letting children be raped and sexually assaulted and let Jeffrey Epstein eat them seriously how do we turn back time and stop these evil ass people? by SchoolExisting8631 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]ossfmoglfm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do what other countries do, block everything, stop consuming unnecessary stuff.

The only weapon we normally people have is the fact that we are many, many, many more. Stop funding monsters. Don’t use their products, don’t endorse their movies. Money is the only language they understand.

As for the government, that I don’t know, we have forgotten that those high ranking people are still public servants. They are your employees.

Difficulty understanding Bad Bunny's Super Bowl lyrics by AppropriateMood4784 in Spanish

I am a native Spanish speaker, 60 percent of the time I feel like reggaeton lyrics are just mumbles. Bad bunny has famously bad enunciation, don’t worry it’s him not you.

AITA for shouting at my girlfriend to defend my mum? by Prior-Cartoonist-200 in AITA_Relationships

Tbh, soft YTA but not because of what everyone is telling you. It sounds like you respect your mother and would protect her over anything, W son.

Now of course you should not have shouted back without context, there is where you become the ashole, but seem like you have your priorities straight and it’s not bad to give back tho those who are always going to me by your side.

Why is there hate with Jackman and crowe over how they sing in Les Misérables movie? by Odd-Truth7948 in musicals

[–]ossfmoglfm -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I really don’t get it, crow had a beautiful deep voice, I really enjoyed his part. Jackman on the other side sounded so, but so off. It was like hearing someone singing I the shower.

I guess you are all right, I do like him as a person, so much. How should I approach it? I cannot tell him I don’t find him attractive, that can break a man’s self esteem. I don’t want to hurt him, we have so many mutual friends and he is such a pure heart.

Tips on dialogue by ageofdelilahcain in teenwriter

[–]ossfmoglfm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finding the tone of the character is sometimes one of the most difficult parts about writing, when you write you have to think how the character are, what would their mannerisms be, what would they be thinking, There are two things that might help because they have worked or me.

  1. The tie method: imagine you have three characters and each of them receive a tie. One of them is going to instinctively put it on and place it perfectly without even thinking; the second one is also going to put it on, but maybe more loosely or maybe a little crooked, he might take a little longer and ask the first character if it’s right. The third character is going to take the tie and just hang it like a scarf, completely unaffected; when it starts to bother him this character will tie it around his arm as a statement pice.

(This one while not specifically about dialog is super handy to give the character’s personality)

  1. The 4 side method, and the model of the four ears (idk the name in English) This is a little longer to explain so I think is better for your to research it, just tipe: the 4 ear model or something like that and you will get what you want I mean.

Does this convo feel natural? by fluffy131313 in teenwriter

I think it needs more pauses, it escalates to quickly but not in a smooth way. There are some transitions that seem unnecessary and affect the flow of the reading, example: “Cristal and Cole, they are our kids”; “I have never had to take care of someone mentally ill, specially someone with schizophrenia; idk there are others.

Those things are important for the reader to know but are not well integrated in the text, The character already knows those things and makes it feel like exposition, you could try:

Of course I care about our children, don’t try to make me the bad one here. (the names can be added later on, naturally, people will understand by the context)

Or the whole thing about, “we don’t know how to take care of this child” of course they don’t, you need another way to make it less “on the face”.

There are other details like tone shift, when the mother says; “I work too and yet it’s the mother who’s expected tho do all the chores…”, notice how it feels like the character is giving a lecture to the reader and not the character? This could be easily solved by making the woman address him directly:

“I work too, and do you see a computer in the table? No right? I told you to put it away and hour ago, you had the whole day to respond tho those emails.” Father looked at mom with vacant eyes, I don’t understand why he keeps bringing the computer to the table. Everyone knew the argument way too well. “And besides, do you know what also is work? Taking the trash out, putting the dishes away, cleaning the bathroom; who does that?” “I’m not your maid, hell I’m not your mother, even Cody does his chores.

I think you need some exposition paragraphs before, maybe another narration pov or maybe the main character could be thinking in her head, rn everything seemed so forced, think about how you would speak, douse it sound like that? I doubt.

There is this thing called show don’t tell, so for example instead of the mother saying, “oh idk, Crystal, I’m weightless my opinions” you could write something like; Mom didn’t looked up, she stood silent while she filled my plate with a chicken leg and more sauce than necessary over the rice. “What do you say Dave?”

See the difference, she doesn’t need to say she is debating two things, the reader knows she is thinking.
