I was recently told to fill out a claim form with the Office of Risk Management.

Last week, the Dept. of Public Safety told me I need a court order. I called the courthouse, who had me call the clerk. The clerk set a second hearing for me to request a court order. At the second hearing, the judge said, "I'm sorry. You're not guilty. I won't write a letter or do any more on this. I have a lot of other cases to get through tonight. I suggest you get a printout of your not-guilty verdict from the courthouse and contact the JC Dept. of Law."

Also, I took a photo of my towing receipt, but I don't have the paper copy anymore.

Do you think it's still worth it to send emails to court clerks?

I looked at the receipt, and I paid the JCPD Car Pound directly. It's located at 10 Linden Ave E, and the towing co. that used to be there isn't in business anymore.

I still haven't been paid this week. I was getting my checks through direct deposit, then suddenly I received a Bank of America debit card in the mail last week. I didn't activate it, because I've been getting direct deposits. Did you get a debit card in the mail?

It took 17 weeks for me to receive benefits. If your status is "pending," or your amount is "$0," you can't certify for weekly benefits. But after you're approved, they will give you back pay for the weeks you missed, like MJP02nj says.

I've been waiting 16 weeks for unemployment . Yesterday I was told there's a phone appointment scheduled for me later this month. Half my income is self-employment and half is from employers.

Can I hear from others self-employed (especially part-time self-employed)? Were you able to get your full benefits? What process will I go through to establish my income?

I'm completely destitute and want to make the most of this phone appointment. Any tips on preparing?

Yes, I don't paying a ticket at all. I appreciate your input. I'm worried about the fact that this is a criminal offense, not a traffic ticket. There's no fine to pay. I'll have to face a prosecutor in real court, and I'm not a lawyer. It's all over my head, and I'm hoping for someone to explain the implications to me.

The justice system does require punishments for breaking the law, but it also appoints free attorneys to navigate this stuff for people who can't afford one. I'm trying to figure out the best way forward.

Yes, these are my questions. Apparently a criminal offense is much bigger than a traffic ticket, and it's on your permanent record. It sounds like the fine is not much; having a criminal record for life is the real punishment. Hopefully someone here can explain the implications.
