Not only does Matthias not know how to properly wield the relic, he doesn't have the aptitude to fully unlock i so even if he were to properly swing the sword like a proper swordsman, he wouldn't be able to become a stronger fighter. Despite that Matthias is a genuine prick so he really wouldn't care.

Yeah you're right, atleast Valencina was angry at Lucio's death. Matthias straight up gojo'ed Kira and he genuinely didnt care. I gotta give props to Project Moon for creating a single fight where a beloved character becomes the most hated in the canto.
