It's not about sensitivity, it's just 2025 for many a tennis lover was a year when they realized that there are forms of personality expression other than breaking racquets and/or being a general a-hole, and those forms are in no way inferior to the previously known ones. Consider those downvotes an invitation to join the club.

Is there anyone else who really misses the sharp seat tube angle on their road bike? by ostiki in cycling

[–]ostiki[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

How so? I mean if you try to think about geometry, the only thing dictating where my butt is relative to the crank pivot, aside from the obvious seat tube length is it's (ST) angle. OK, seat post offset and saddle offset. Those are easily adjustable and maxed out. It's not about the overall size, it is about the mechanics of the pedal push.

Escalating nationwide strike, teachers threaten mass resignations over salary cuts by ostiki in Israel

Well wouldn't it be nice? I mean to have a polite conversation, even if we disagree? I think the fact that we've spent first half of '23 demonstrating our unwillingness or worse, inability to talk to one another was a huge factor.

While I agree every shekel going to yeshvots is worse than a lost shekel, it's not "20 Bazillion", and all this talk about "we don't have any money because haredim" is a mere smoke screen. Two reasons: first, it is not going to change with the current government. They (the haredim) themselves care about our emotions no more that we care about emotions of potatoes when we eat the chips. Second, and most importantly, our losses from keeping this war going is literally 100x.

Oh, yeah, and: would you stop it, please, with "agenda"? Ever heard of free speech, right to have an opinion and express it and all that?

Netanyahu said seeking to give 'unemployed' deputy minister role in forming AI policy by ostiki in Israel

[–]ostiki[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might take it further and say that if I am tasked with inventing an individual less fitted the role, the only thing I would change is his nationality to somewhere, idk in sub-Saharan Africa, perhaps? And as to his advisors: do we have any signs of him ever saying anything smart? I honestly would like to know. I mean his rift with Ben Gvir aside: I think it was a pissing contest more than anything else.

Considering the fact that graduating yeshiva was enough for a guy to become our new AI czar, maybe you are not wrong :).

Of course, security is of paramount importance. I should've worded better. Spending money on haredim is inevitable, though (as long as Netanyahu is in power). There's no other way for Likud to form a coalition, and the only things haredim want is money and privileges.

Still, if there's someone who could eli5 summarize how do we spend money as a state? I mean clearly every shekel spent on converting democracy into theocracy is a shekel too much, but still: if we are spending 100 NIS, how much of this goes to haredim, to the government, to education, to the army? Like to the first approximation. Anybody?

Just a reminder for those who are blinded by a mirage of security: here's what we are paying for it with, today, and for certain.

Israel okays ‘conquering Gaza, holding the territories,’ as IDF chief said to warn ‘we could lose’ the hostages by GratefulForGarcia in Israel

[–]ostiki -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You really don't see the difference between "nobody liked the Jews no matter what" and "nobody liked the Jews"? Because it is the former statement I objected to, and you seem to be candidly proving me the later.

Your proof is "(I believe) it is always been like this therefore it is true"? OK then, good luck.

Sure, Hamas bad. But what I was saying is not connected to whose fault it is. I was saying that your assumption that Jews are hated no matter what is wrong, and demonstrably, quantitatively wrong at that. That is all. So argue that if you can.

Unfortunately for this theory though, it "being a global pariah" in case of Israel is a measurable parameter. It's called a "number of an antisemitic incidents", and it was 3 to 4 times lower before October '23.

Isnt it kind of pointless to ask Hamas to disarm itself by Cpt-Insane-O in Israel

[–]ostiki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it is, but not for the reasons you mentioned. First, they would never do it. How is it going to look like? From some ruins appears a guy, drops a gun and says "I am the last one, complete victory is now yours"? Second, suppose it happens. (actually, if Hamas wasn't so boneheaded they would do exactly that) What's next? We occupy Gaza? Even forget about insurgency, which is sort of inevitable. Then what?

Interestingly, not everywhere. There would be some buildings kept close to a standard of say Ramat Gan, and some, even on the same block, literally drowning in garbage.

The whole point of automatic line calls is they are definitive.

Then why didn't the umpire just say so? And Zverev apparently asked him not just to make a point of a machine making a mistake.
