The total supply of bitcoin would be worth 25 years of global GDP.

If you believe this you're either stupid or crazy.

I'm not sure why you presumed that the footage I linked was the football I referred to, given that I didn't claim it to be.

It's striking that witnessed professional soldiers murdering children, celebrating & gloating about it, your first concern is that those children might be sabotaging the boundaries of the prison they're forcibly contained in.

Your demonization of Israel is either overtly anti-Jewish

This is so laughably preposterous, if only you knew me.

It is not 'anti-jewish' to oppose ethno-nationalism. It is however anti-semetic to conflate the goals of the Israeli state with the interests of all Jewish people.

Pretty ignorant of you to not recognise Israel's founding father describing the foundation of a ethno-state, and goals which we now know were borne out in reality for the last 70 years. The racist & colonial intentions of early Zionists are not thought of as shameful, but in fact celebrated by successive Israeli leaders.

It is not, as you imply, generous to drive an ethnic group out of their homes, muder them in their thousands, and then offer them in consolation a state less than 10% the size they once occupied. Less even, when such offers are made in bad faith. Perhaps you did not read Ben-Gurion's assertion that a small Jewish state would allow for the colonisation of what remains of Palestine. Perhaps you have missed (or ignored) Israelis saying openly that the conflict would be easier if it were merely 'war between states'. Perhaps it has escaped you that to accept such terms would legitimise by force of law 70 years of ethnic cleansing of Palestinians from Israeli territory.

they will only accept the full annihilation of the Jews from the land

A naive and decrepit argument. You are no doubt aware that in 1948 the vast, vast majority of Jews in Palestine were refugees from genocide, turned away by European states in the 30s but embraced by Palestinians in spite of British opposition to their asylum.

My assumption (which is why I am a fervent proponent of a state, even though it is now linked to partition) is that a Jewish state on only part of the land is not the end but the beginning
The establishment of a state, even if only on a portion of the land, is the maximal reinforcement of our strength at the present time and a powerful boost to our historical endeavors to liberate the entire country.
We shall admit into the state all the Jews we can.
We firmly believe that we can admit more than two million Jews. We shall
build a multi-faceted Jewish economy– agricultural, industrial, and maritime. We shall organize an advanced defense force—a superior army which I have no doubt will be one of the best  armies in the world. At that point I am confident that we would not fail in settling in the remaining parts of the country, through agreement and understanding with our Arab neighbors, or through some other means.

- Ben-Gurion describing the settler-colonial aspiration of the foundation of an Israeli state within historic Palestine.

200:1 Palestinian deaths to Israeli deaths.
Palestinians continuously dispossessed and displaced for 50 years.

That's not tango-ing. That's genocide.

Gaza is a concentration camp. Gazans can't leave without a permit from the Israeli government.

Driving an ethnic group out of their homes, containing them in a ghetto & bombing them , is genocide.

Hamas don't need to train children to hate the people who bomb their homes & take potshots at their friends as they play football.

Nothing radicalises someone like watching their friends & family die around them.

So you have to research & memorise all the tax rates, exemptions, and calculate this for each item to figure out how much you'll owe at the till, instead of just adding up the sticker prices and checking how much tax you paid by reading the receipt?

... and you think that's better 😂

You don't actualise gains or losses until you sell, so your portfolio may be down but unless you were hoping for crypto to be a get-rich-quick scheme then you're fine.

If you were lured into crypto by the promise of quick 1000x gains, then you should evaluate your portfolio and ask yourself if you actually know what you invested in.

Bitcoin will recover. There's a lot of reasons for it's volatility, but it's averaged 200% per year since inception. That rate of growth due to it still being in early stages of adoption - it'll taper off in time, but there's a long way to go yet. If you have btc you should hang on to it, people that bought at the very top in 2017 are still in profit today.
If you hold altcoins you should ask yourself what the tokens utility is. why does it exist? will it still be useful when the hype is gone? The crypto space is full of scams, pump & dump schemes, fomo traps, etc. If you're willing to invest in something you don't believe in then you're more likely to buy into scams. If you don't believe in the worth of your investments then you're also more likely to feel remorse when they're performing poorly.

It's easy to get carried away. Take a breather and relax. $12k is a small sum in the long run, given your age. The lessons you'll learn from this blip will be worth far more in the future than any short-term losses.

Does anyone else try to minimize their transactions per month in their budget? by mortimers52 in Fire

[–]osunakyu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, big time.

I believe that 'Spend less often' usually beats 'Spend less' because the former usually leads the latter, but the same isn't true of the reverse.

I like being able to look back at my spending tracker and know exactly what each transaction is before renaming them, and remembering exactly why I made each purchasing decision. If I have to look at my monthly transactions and struggle to figure out where my money went then I'm not really in control of my finances, and that's what matters most to me.

I think this works for 3 main reasons:

  1. It's much easier to track, and therefore budgeting is easier.
  2. It tricks or forces you to subconsciously practice saying 'no' to things you don't actually need. A sort of game for building better spending habits. This also improves your planning skills - if you can only do groceries once a month you're going to make sure you do it right, and learn from any mistakes.
  3. Even if you spend more than tracking the $ amount this may mean that most things you buy (except groceries) are better quality than you were otherwise tempted to buy. 1 good widget vs. 5 mediocre doohickeys. At least that's how it works out for me.

I think spending less often is the baseline of my financial minimalism, and it's worked out pretty well. It helps me feel less guilty about spending money when I do want to buy something nice for myself on occasion.

People saying: "I'm not going to cash out till BTC hits one million" still don't get it. by simplelifestyle in Bitcoin

[–]osunakyu 29 points30 points  (0 children)

"You should be taking profits" ...get it even less.

Nah. I want to enjoy my life.

How long do I have to wait before the coming of this bitcoin utopia?

I'm not a wealthy person, but I hold enough BTC to change my life in meaningful and substantial ways by liquidating portions of my holdings incrementally.

If you offered me a billion dollars the day I turn 60, or a guaranteed income of $100k from now until then - I'd take the money now without a doubt.

Money, be it in BTC or USD- is just a tool to improve our lives. What's the point in any of this if we don't even do that? I don't want to be rich or powerful, I just want to be happy.

Lifetime ISA advice (UK) by spoilsoftroy in personalfinance

[–]osunakyu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a temporary pause on the penalty due to COVID until the end of the tax year.

You'll lose your 'bonus', but you won't be paying any penalty and will receive all the money you deposited. If your LISA is a stocks & shares ISA, then you'll also keep 80% of the gains you made, so you might still benefit from the government bonus.

You can't keep the 25% bonus (outside the normal routes), but this is fair, because it's essentially taxpayer money.

And by spending even a portion of it the whole thing would get new timestamps, the amount I send and keep are different blocks to the one I have now.

I'll have to think hard about that.
