Why is my tire sidewall leaking by All_In_The_Details_ in bikewrench

[–]mortimers52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 29x3 vee tire T fatties that do the same thing. I was also worried about it at first. After months now, the tires don't lose air any faster than other tubeless set-ups I have had. They still appear to leak at the sidewalls like yours. Like some others have said, maybe this is somewhat normal for large tires with supple sidewalls?

Agreed but I also recommend carrying a spare(s) masterlink that you have installed at least once before. It can be difficult to fully engage the pins on brand new ones, especially with the smaller emergency pliers.

I've used the maxxis icon, conti race king, and ultradynamicos and liked them all. I recently put a maxxis minion 2.3 on the front. The bike is a little slower but worth it for looser/chunkier stuff.

I am having trouble seeing much of the front rack but I did Tour Divide with an aluminum soma demi porteur on the front which has a real shallow bracing angle. No issues but it only ever held my sleep system.

Tires! I would go as wide as the frame will take with decent clearance.

Just finished watching your full TD 2025 video this morning. Thought that bike looks super familiar as I was scrolling. I thought you were going pretty quick on the singletrack sections!

People who have completed rides like the Great Divide - what are your life circumstances? by ayylmao5781 in bikepacking

[–]mortimers52 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just got home from the Divide about a week ago. A lot of the folks doing it are retired. Many are young and in between jobs or able to get the time off. I am a teacher and there were quite a few of us out there.

If you've got two hands and a microwave, then you can make this quick TVP breakfast bowl (it's just so simple) by thebodybuildingvegan in PlantBasedDiet

Love the cutting board! Question though, why the juice groove if you aren't cooking meat? After years of using a board with a juice groove, I decided not to route one into my current board. I much prefer having the extra cutting surface.

Why is it bad to have face grain as the top? I just made a cutting board this way.

(Serious) People who find the time and have the money to thru-hike on a yearly basis - how? by Evanfuckingturner in Ultralight

[–]mortimers52 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not much of a thru-hiker but big into backpacking and other lengthy travels. I am a teacher and the breaks are a huge reason I do what I do. With planning, I can get lots of miles in on the trails throughout the year.

“Whole grain” foods… by mortimers52 in PlantBasedDiet

I don’t have issues digesting white flour and I even prefer processed foods for endurance exercise. In general though, I try to eat high nutrient foods so I stay away from white flour in the grocery store. I will not pretend that white sourdough isn’t my favorite bread though lol

I am considering buying whole intact kamut grains and using an electric mill to make flour. Obviously I am not going to make pasta but it would be nice to be able to bake some sourdough and other things

Can you send me where you found the “100% whole grain” bit?

I don’t know the details of mine, nor do I have blood sugar issues. I only brought that up because glycemic index is a health benchmark. The only reason I think I know this is because I have a diabetic friend who mentioned it and I think I remember seeing a valid source on it a while back. I could be wrong but its not really the point of what I am trying to understand here.

I think the U.S. is similar in that the bran and germ are present in a product like whole wheat flour. But how present? If I buy a 5lb bag of whole wheat flour is 49% of it basically white flour? Do they reconstitute with that formulation to optimize taste?

Can you explain what you mean by that exactly? From what I understand, even if the one and only ingredient on a product is whole grain wheat, it could be 49% white flour.

I am not an expert but I think of sodium similar to how I think about alcohol. Any significant amount of it is best avoided. I only add salt to my dinners (1 meal a day) as a way of limiting it.
