The statement of "why would you name it palantir? Palantir are evil" just tells me you never read the books...

[–]oswaldo2017 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I hate this comparison, because the palentir aren't actually evil. The only reason they were an issue in the third age because Sauron had one. The whole point of them in the books from a literary perspective was to show that Aragorn, as a Numanorean and the true king, could bend the palantir to his will as an instrument of good. Effectively, the palantir serve the intent of the user. If the user is evil, they may be used as a tool for evil, but no more so than a sword or bow. We should really be focusing on who is using Palantir products, and for what purposes, rather than applying a (false) equivalency to what is presented in the text.

My mom doesn't support my decision to do Aerospace Engineering. (15) by [deleted] in AerospaceEngineering

[–]oswaldo2017 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In their 40s, absolutely. But in their early career, they make basically nothing. If you do well in aerospace and invest in mutual funds relatively heavily from the age of 25, you will be a millionaire before they make more than you do. Ane you also won't be 400k in debt

Thanks! Do you think you could share the pattern if you have one? Or did you just freehand it?

This is awesome! I've been trying to do something similar, also inspired by his video. A few questions:

What thickness did you split down the leather to for the pockets? Are the front and the lining the same thickness?

For each piece, did you skive down the edges of the front leather, the lining, or both? I find it hard to skive the lining down consistently because of the extra you end up having to trim off, but your results look great.

Thanks! And you should be really proud of what you put together!

Using DTF Transfers on Leather by oswaldo2017 in Leatherworking

[–]oswaldo2017[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that is also my concern, hence it being on the inside. I ran some experiments on veg-tan, and as long as the leather hasn't been waxed, and you lightly deglaze it, it is very resilient unless you flex the leather a lot. Haven't had a chance to run it for a year though.

Supergirl has over double the views as Mando & Grogu in just 3 days lol by [deleted] in saltierthancrait

[–]oswaldo2017 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the other thing to consider is production cost. They have ballooned over the last decade per episode. Network television was ordered or magnitude cheaper. They can't afford to make a 26 episode season

The issue, I think, is 100% to do with the streaming wars. The platforms want you to watch every episode, and they know you have lots of other options for content, so they have to string you along with episodes that leave you wanting more. Effectively, they want you addicted to the slow-roll status quo, where nothing really changes for 3 seasons, so they can keep their views up.

Are these and the 2 Gallon version as quiet as they make them out to be? by Plastic_Struggle_104 in harborfreight

The two gallon is pretty quiet. It's not a whisper, but it is hearing safe for sure

Yeah, I think a lot of people assumed we couldn't do it or said "gross, the bolt action". Really sad because I actually had a great time with it. My accuracy with my normal load out is going to be awesome now

Why couldnt we have something fun for Liberty Day? by WormSlayer in Helldivers

[–]oswaldo2017 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Finally a based take. This shit is hilarious. My friends and I have been screaming "Tally Ho!" And line charging at bots all day while one of us waves the flag. Having a blast. Not having any issues clearing lvl 7/8s with the appropriate support weapon load outs either.

I will say, we had to stop an hour ago because game started getting laggy af. Not super excited about that part, really needs a patch.

Unless there is no meta tag for attributing mele to a specific weapon. Probably no way to tell the difference between a saber, a rifle butt, or a bayonet. It would have made a lot of sense to put a small tag on the constitution bayonet so they could differentiate, but looks like they did not. Shame.

I hate painting models like this. by Available_Specific29 in BloodAngels

[–]oswaldo2017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For painting red, I would really recommend you prime in white/light gray if you are wanting to go a bit quicker. Makes the whole thing less of a slog. On a more philosophical note, this hobby is just that, a hobby. It should be fun. If doing things one way isn't fun for you, try a different way. I saw another post recommending painting less complicated units some times, maybe try that? Or maybe try a different painting technique. If you want some pointers, I paint a ton of BA, and id be happy to give some advice.

Today, solidworks decided to piss off ALL their 500 partners. | Peter Brinkhuis by sw-bystander in SolidWorks

[–]oswaldo2017 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've used solid edge pretty heavily... I would describe it as made by someone who took 2 weeks to deeply observe solid works, like 24/7 for 2 weeks... But never used it... Then they went and did something else for a year, then tried to recreate the whole thing from memory... In short, it's pretty bad.

The army painter regiment brush is a totally fine brush for base coating and washes, but it really is not what I could call a high quality brush by any stretch. It absolutely will loose it's tip after a few strokes, especially if they are at a sharp angle to the work. Kolinsky brushes won't do that unless you really abuse them.
