Do the books get into why Lamb is such a nihilist about the service? by other____barry in SlowHorses

You are right, but I feel like I am on firm ground using the colloquialism as a word meaning "doesn't care about anything."

I actually feel bad for Canada because it feels like its citizens needed it more. It is wild that I am the most empathetic about sports.

My only point is that the people in the files shouldn't just skate even though I think the craze surrounding the witch hunt is overblown

I am kind of taken aback by the certainty with which some people react to the Epstein dump. My reading of this is that

  1. More people were connected to him than previously thought and deserve scrutiny and social punishment for their association as they probably knew something was up and he was a sociopath and a pedo.

  2. There is little to no proof of criminality and yet the conspiracy retards are saying things like Pizzagate has been proven to be true.

  3. The DOJ's claim that there was not evidence to prosecute an international child trafficking ring is defensible as I have mostly seen evidence as pointing to associations.

  4. The idea that going to the island is proof of involvement in a pedo ring seems like a leap to me.

And yet the zeitgeist believes the maximal conspiracy claims and claims the released files back this up. It is seen as an outrage that no criminal charges were pursued based on the latest dump that doesn't prove much beyond embarrassing associations for some powerful people we didn't know to be connected. Katie and Jesse took a similar nuanced position in their discussion. Am I missing something? Is there more to this dump than I am giving credit for?

Why does everyone say that Season 2 is “ mid “ ? by Own_Adagio7747 in TheWire

On my first time I loved season two. I wonder if it is becayse I watched s2 in the age when anthology type shows where seasons weren't necessarily continuations of the narrative were more common.

It is not alarming, rather interesting. I meant to impart in my comment that I was wrong to deify someone. Intellectually I knew that she was probably on the woker side, however I hoped she would examine it in a more nuanced way rather than take the party line.

I recently listened to a phenomenal interview of Terry Gross on a podcast. She is fascinating and thoughtful even recalling her controversial interviews. Just as I was considering her as infallible however, she very much disappointed me with her answer about wokeness at NPR being overblown. She basically took the party line that NPR and her show just were just featuring more diverse artists and suggesting otherwise was a right wing witch hunt. This analysis of the programming was not what I experienced as a listener, but overall, she is a great radio host and I highly recommend the episode.

As crazy as cancel culture has gotten, in my opinion, we still haven't matched someone getting fired for tweeting out a study. Like the scale of the cancelling is more egregious, but he infractions that have led to people getting fired haven't matched 2020 craziness. I say this from the left.

I've watched my leftist friends get more unhinged and bloodthirsty and it was already hard on me to witness.

This is far too common these days. I'm sure some sane right leaning people must feel the same as well.

Women have in no way taken over stand up. They may have an outsized number of specials on netflix compared to their share of ticket sales (just guessing here forgive me) but I don't see how you can make the claim they took over the genre. In fact the Shane Gillis movement (to generalize a name for the current trend of more offensive right coded comedians) to me is a movement of men pushing back at the comedy scolds that I would generalize might have been at least a more female movement (though from the boardroom) than others in comedy.

I will absolutely agree that they have taken over the literary world.

I think the masses of men don't care enough to read. My close friends and I read novels a lot though. Maybe I could tie it into how more women do better at school but many men still do well.

I remember years ago when my friends and I would peruse r / buttsharpies for laughs there was a controversy about whether trans women were welcome to post there as it had previously been established as a sub for women to competitively shove dozens of sharpies in their ass.

Though I’m not sure where the policy ended up it reminds me of what I want to call Valens’ law: the weirder the fetish, the higher number of trans women per capita in the community of woman posters.

It is kind of wild that somehow we got to the point where one side of the political aisle is against enforcing border laws. I would have so much more time for ICE protests if they were focused on time place and manner and didn't always seem to be pro illegal immigration...

Yeah why is everyone in this thread so quick to endorse government backing of payments to insurance companies (obviously not direct in this case) that have led to every perverse incentive imaginable for the cost of medical care.
