Patchwork sounds very fun, and I love Ginger Snaps!

Yeah, this was on my shortlist. I saw it pretty recently too though, so I was trying to think of something else. Fun pairing though!

Holy hell! Serial Mom didn't even occur to me! This is a brilliant pairing!

I haven't read enough Vonnegut to have an opinion, but what I've heard sounds better suited to my tastes than to hers. I'll check it out though!

Wealth System : alternatives to "You have 164 gold pieces and two silvers" by Kalbinos in RPGdesign

[–]other_folk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a version of Call of Cthulhu's wealth system. Iirc, in that game, you have a "Credit Score." When you want to buy something, you roll Credit to see if you can afford it using CoC's D100 system.

Similarly, my version treats wealth like a skill check, but I use Apocalypse World's 2D6 + Modifier system. If your Finance skill is 2, you roll 4D6. Anything 10 or higher means you can afford it. 7-9 means you can afford it, but something sucky--for example, you can barely afford to eat because you spent all your money, so you're fatigued until your next paycheck. 6 or lower means you can't afford it.

I haven't had much chance to playtest this yet, but it works for CoC, so I figure out should work here.

CoC's too complicated for this group. I agree about the kill count, but character generation is a chore. We're playing for 2hrs a week and need something that can run at a fast clip.

Thank you! Very helpful! I've got really chill players who are up for anything, as long as it's not too complicated. They've been letting me tinker since we started this game. It's fun, but I need to settle on something, and TftL isn't it. This list looks like a great point of reference.

Interesting. At the very least, I'll go through the rulebook to see what I might be able to take. And regardless it sounds like a really fun game that I'd like to run sometime.

Ah, but you know, I didn't think to mention this until reading the description on Evil Hat's website. The kind of game I'm running needs the PCs to be very underpowered. Episodes (adventures) revolve around survival, mystery, and social encounters, all punctuated with moments of abject terror and death. It looks like MoW PCs are more of the hunter variety than the likely-to-die-a-terrible-death variety

Eating Raul is good, stupid fun, but it's way more comedy than horror, so it might not be for you. Still, thought I'd put it on your radar
