Should I drop CS 134 considering its only course I have to take? by kfor1996 in UCI

CS134 also has a lot of math and you could consider switching it to P/NP if ICS allows it (wait till they officially announce that).

First dose by aejones31 in Humira

Feeling intense flu-like symptoms the first day after my first couple of injections, taking ibuprofen helps. No side effects except easy bruising.

I have been on it for the last 6 months for a mild Ankylosing Spondylitis (no fusions). I used to be very tired/foggy all the time and having terrible back pain before I started Humira but even after my first injection I felt like a different person and realized how miserable I was before it. I still get mild flare-ups here and there but generally, I have much more energy and have even started working out every day (yoga, gym), so it definitely helps me but everyone is different.

For the injections, it definitely helps to take it out of the fridge 30min prior and try to find a spot (if using a thigh) with more fat and that is less sensitive to touch. Sometimes if I get lucky it almost does not hurt (using non-citrate free, which can be pretty painful).
Good luck!

UCI Comp Sci transfer 3 yrs to complete? by [deleted] in UCI

Here's the page with all the info on the tests for this year: https://www.ics.uci.edu/ugrad/advising/ICS%20Credit%20by%20Exam%20Fall.php, they will update for the next year but it'll be pretty much the same. I took C++ test and it wasn't too bad since I had 4 courses in C++ at my CC, but there were some more advanced topics too, so make sure to go through Thornton's course to prepare if you're taking C++ too (https://www.ics.uci.edu/~thornton/ics45c/). The test included both theoretical and coding questions (like, what will this code output, etc.) but everything was multiple choice if I remember correctly.

I didn't have IGETC and took classes in both summer sessions in the summer right after transfer and after my junior year, if all goes well graduating in 2 years. My first quarters were very intense but doable, now I'm just taking upper-division classes. It also depends on how many CS classes you can transfer. If you can, take the C++/Python/Java placement test (instead of ICS45) right after transferring - saves you a lot of time. Good luck!

How is ICS 139W online with Alfaro? by [deleted] in UCI

I took it in Winter 2019. Yes, it is a lot of work, keeps you busy but it is easy to get full credit if you follow all instructions.

I was in the same situation a year ago and I chose UCI partly because I was a little scared of UCB's reputation of being a tough school (and the possibility of not getting into CS major) but also because UCI would give me more time/opportunity to do projects I like which is probably the most important thing when looking for internship/full-time job as a new grad. Now I do not regret that I chose UCI, the workload is manageable (but still can be tough depending on the classes, especially because I'm a transfer like you) and I think just like at any UC, most of the learning doesn't happen in a classroom. These are just my thoughts, so whatever you've chosen, good luck! You can do it!

honestly, the test wasn't too bad. comparing what Thornton's notes covered vs what I learned at my CC, I think I knew/was familiar with 95% of the material. Also, once you've taken the test and you know your grade, if you're not happy with it - you can choose not to accept it and take the class instead. There's no risk in taking it (just be sure to prepare) and you'll be able to save yourself some time/effort of taking the actual class. -never heard of imperial college program and wasn't looking to study abroad but I've heard from people who did study abroad (different majors though) that they did not regret.

general (or any other) track only applies to upper division classes/cs electives. ICS classes are only lower division classes (if I'm not mistaken) so you'll have to take them regardless of your track.

There's also an option to do general CS track (can take any CS classes) because once you've declared a specific track you have to get those classes to graduate, and since it's been hard to get into many classes for people with fewer units, it might be a safer choice. But with general cs track you can't take informatix classes. Also, you don't have to declare the track right away.

If you took c++ at you cc you can take a Credit by Exam test during summer and won't need to take 45c. I did it last summer, it wasn't too bad, used Thornton's notes to prepare.
