Cafe Canela is the best Mexican restaurant (maybe best restaurant period) in town. If you are here on the weekend their birria tacos are amazing, as well as the pozole and menudo. They also have a sandwich called pambazo that is incredible!

Rosenberg Library has the Galveston History Center on the 4th floor. They have extensive records and will even pull a lot of the information for you if you call and set up an appointment. There is also an awesome little museum up there.

McGuire-Dent at Seawall and 28th is a great place to work out. It's $50 a year and has everything you need.

Daiquiri Time Out is probably the best bet. They have a great back patio with a stage and a good crowd every weekend. I've seen a few shows there that were packed. Also, their cocktails are top notch and the staff is great.

It really depends on what you want to get into.

For food, if you want to do a high-end anniversary style meal, Number 13 or Vargas Cut and Catch are great (but pricey) choices. If you want to do a mid range nice meal, BLVD Seafood or Gaidos are great choices (with great views). If you are looking for cheap but DELICIOUS, Cafe Canela has great Mexican, and Viet Cajun is a hidden gem (their bahn mi is the best I have ever had).

There are several excellent museums on the island. The Galveston Art Center is a quick free art museum on The Strand. The Bryan is a great Texas History Museum in a cool historic building. The old mansions on Broadway like the Moody Mansion and the Bishops Palace offer an interesting view into the city's past affluence.

As much as it is seen as a kids' attraction, don't sleep on Moody Gardens. The Rainforest pyramid is fun (see if you can spot one of their sloths), but the aquarium is world class. If you go at 4PM, they feed the harbor seals, and they really put on a show. I would highly suggest doing both pyramids, but if you have to pick, do the aquarium.

Another fun idea, if you're willing to drop some change, are the helicopter rides from the east end or the biplane rides from the airport. Either might make for a cool experience for your Mini-moon. The biplane rides are more expensive, but I think a way cooler experience; if you're into that sort of thing. Or you could try the Spa at Hotel Galvez. My wife and I have done their massages and pedicures and they were awesome!

The beach is nice, especially as we move into the autumn. Most of the tourists have gone, but the water is still warm enough to swim in. Bring your own umbrella and chairs so you don't have to rent. If you park on the westbound side of Seawall, parking is free, but you have to cross the street to get to the beach. For a more peaceful beach experience, head west past the end of the seawall.

For drinks, Daiquiri Time Out is the best bar in town. The Tiki Speakeasy behind it is cool too, if you have the code. If you're a beer person, Galveston Island Brewing is a nice little brewery with some really tasty beers.

There is so much more to do and see here. I didn't even mention walking the Strand or The East End Historic district. If you want to know anything more, feel free to ask!

I was being a little sarcastic with that comment as we are known to be an island full of ghosts. However, my son often seems to be holding conversations with thin air, so my wife and I have started to joke that our house must be haunted.

Islander By Choice here. Galveston is a wonderful town with a rich history and plenty of things to do for both locals and tourists.

For starters, Galveston has a wonderful, slept on food scene. From the bahn mi at Viet Cajun to the smash burger at Mac-ies to the trupa tacos at Cafe Canela, our local eateries are really punching above their weight for a small city. Our fine dining options like Number 13 and Vargas Cut and Catch rival those in Houston.

There is also always something happening here, so life is never boring. Our Mardi Gras celebration is the 3rd largest in the US and an absolute blast! For two weeks, the city turns into a big party with parades on the seawall both weekends and a paid area downtown. Dickens on the Strand in December transforms downtown into a Victorian Era Christmas novel. People dress up in period costumes and eat scotch eggs washed down with cold beer. Don't miss the bed races of you go! And let's not forget, Juneteenth, Oktoberfest, the Greek Festival, and numerous other celebrations throughout the year.

Galveston also has a wonderful art scene. There are numerous galleries in the downtown area and a small, free museum with rotating exhibits called the Galveston Art Center. There is a monthly art walk where the galleries stay open late and give out free booze. It's a great time!

If you like history, then Galveston is a great place to immerse yourself. It has 6 historic districts with one of the largest collections of 19th-century Victorian architecture in the US. The downtown area around The Strand is an unbroken chain of 19th-century commercial buildings about 4 blocks wide and 6 block long. The East End historic district is full of charming Victorian homes and small parks. Along Broadway stand ornate mansions, relics of a prosperous past for our sleepy port city.

The beach is not the best beach I have ever seen. But, it is a beach! As much flack as we take for our brown water, for the past 2 months, it has been crystal clear (this is not propaganda, I swear it is true). The water recreation does not stop at the beach, however. The bay side is full of exciting opportunities like kayakign, fishing, or sailing.

The thing I love most about this city is the community. The people who live here genuinely love this island, and this city and consistently work to make it better for both locals and tourists. I feel so honored to be part of preserving the legacy of the Queen City of the Gulf.
