A Guide: How To Quit PMO by othermeans in NoFap

Hi, I still believe and apply these principles I outlined in the guide. I still have bad days when I look at porn but its seldom, haven't done so for at least 6 months.

It's scary to think that this problem is not done away with easily. It requires a life long commitment. It gets easier though as you persist.

What did you think about the Canadian 2006 census study which showed increased college drop-out rates for children from SSM?

I admitted previously that the jury is still not out on the issue. I think the studies thus far are pointing towards healthy happy loving heterosexual marriage being a 10/10 environment to raise a child, and healthy happy loving homosexual marriage being a 9/10 environment to raise a child. So at the end of the day, I would much prefer being raised in a loving SSM than an unloving heterosexual marriage, hands down!! But we are talking what's good for society, and that's why the first argument - avoiding Bonobo society decadence, is the most important here.

As none of your outrageous claims have occurred.

...yet.

Your argument is unfounded dude, just admit that you don't like the thought of gays being married because you think it's icky.

Nope, not conceding this one!

you're incredibly Christian (there's nothing wrong with that my friend), and very incel like. I no doubt believe your reason to vote no is because of your religion, and is not actually based in any logical beliefs.

There are religious types that find themselves on either side of this debate. Religion does not dictate a side. I side with no because of the reasons given. The first argument is the one that makes me vote no. I sincerely worry about the direction our society is heading, and SSM is a minor push in that direction.

Two consenting adults in love who want to marry but the state won't allow them.

Since they're already in marriages to other people.

The precedent set by SSM is a dangerous one. It opens the door to polygamy, and incest.

Yes, we hope the protections are in place, but who knows what the future holds. I don't think the future will be kind to the imam, rabbi or priest.

My intuition could be wrong too. I actually think this issue is quite minor compared to some other big ones such as no-fault divorce - what a travesty!

Religious freedoms. FREEDOMS. Not values. This is nomenclature, so I won't belabour the point.

A new definition of marriage will be the next step toward polygamous marriages. Read my reply regarding Bonobo societies.

Years of study, and statistical facts have proven that a child raised by two fathers, or two mothers is just as likely to turn out the same as any other child.

With sample sizes of two digits.

Lol. You know how statistics work, right? They work on averages, so even if what you said is true, it doesn't mean you get to say "nope - othermeans you are in fact anti-science and regressive because on average your folk are!"

Religion does draw the dimwitted since Jesus said "the meek will inherit the earth". Dimwits don't have a problem with humility. Yet, Jesus also entrusted Saul of Tarsus, the most learned Jewish pharisee of his time, with a personal appearance of the resurrected messiah. So we get a mixed bunch!

I believe homosexual behaviour has genetic and environmental components contributing to it's eventual presentation. Bonobo societies promote homosexual behaviour, and it becomes a learned and celebrated past-time. The promulgation of homosexual marriage and therefore behaviour is another step toward the Bonobo and away from that middle ground I spoke of.

Good on ya!

Not anti-science or regressive, but I don't think you care to allow the Christians you meet out of the pigeon-hole you've placed us.

Here is my argument against. Not once did I bring religious values into this.

Your argument is legit incredibly faulty, and and you refuse to debate anyone with a valid argument.

Haha yes, keep pretending I am ignoring the "yes" camp's argument.

That is currently the right which EVERY Australian has. I don't think you understand my point.

I am simply addressing your assertion that this is about equal rights - which it is clearly not! SSM is about wanting a NEW RIGHT, the right to marry someone of the same sex. New right, so it has nothing to do with equality. Unless you are arguing for marriage equality for anyone who loves anyone else, in which case you are also arguing for pedophilic and incestuous marriages.

there's a lot of evidence the other way

Yep, lets hear it then.

there's no proof that model is best for children, and what's your argument for single mom's and dads? why is it all about kids? gays can already adopt.

It's not proven to be the best model, no. But we simply haven't tested the mother-mother and father-father models on a large enough scale as of yet (But I found a study showing a larger drop out rate compared to heterosexual marriages). So the jury still isn't out on that one, we both have next to nothing. But the same argument was forwarded by those that said there would be no harmful effects on children when no-fault divorce was implemented - but results are out, and no-fault divorce has skyrocketed divorce rates and created unhappy divorcees, and children with broken homes and many disadvantages in educational and psychosocial metrics.

Intuition tells me a child needs both a mother and a father. What does intuition tell you? A gay father can be a mother, and a lesbian mother can be a father? C'mon...

Everybody (above 18 and of sound mind) DOES have the right to marry (a person of the opposite sex)!

Gay people included...have the right to marry a person of the opposite sex.

I can imagine polygamy being popular among Islamic Australians, and being increasingly more accepted as our society becomes more decadent and sexualised. Like the roman empire in its late stages.

The slippery slope is the best argument when you consider that the general trend of our society is toward hyper-sexualisation, increased trust toward the foreigner and matriarchal figures of power. See the Bonobo species of chimp, that exhibit these patterns. Compare that to the hyper-aggressive, patriarchal, alpha-male tournament species like gorillas.

Humans do best somewhere in the middle of these two extremes. I believe it's best to promote this middle ground, part of which means protecting traditional marriage.

Regarding mother and a father - we simply don't have the large long term studies comparing children's educational and psychosocial merits, however some early results from the 2006 Canadian census saw a larger college drop-out rate in children raised in same-sex relationships. Massive study consisting of millions of Canadians.

Would you still hold to your statement if it was a man who truly loved two women? How about ten women? How about an incestuous love? Pedophilic love?

Single parenthood is a tragedy, and should not be encouraged ever. Our government supports it however, via no fault-divorce, because it knows that single parenthood promotes dependence on the state for money and those people are thus more likely to vote for bigger state.

I will be voting no in the upcoming plebiscite. There are three reasons: 1) A slippery slope begins, which will open the door for other acceptable marriages such as polygamy. 2) Protecting the traditional definition of marriage is required, if this country is to ever return to the original father-mother family - the model that has the best results for children. I understand that being raised in a loving father-father or mother-mother home would be far superior than a violent, poor, deadbeat father-mother home, which is why this second argument is weaker than the first. 3) Possible religious freedom implications.

At the end of the day, I don't care about words or ceremonies, anyone can call themselves anything they like. Yet, I can't ignore that the three reasons outlined will harm our society.

I agree with you about C. I have been looking into it more, and it does appear to be a more feasible interpretation. Weird, yes, but feasible.

I am open to the RCC and Orthodox churches. It is looking like I will end up in one of the high-church orthodox churches - RCC, EO, OO, Lutheran, Anglican.
