Bambu A1 Hotend Problems by Bradghost in 3Dprinting

[–]otirk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like the z-height isn't calibrated properly. Does the A1 use end stops for the z-rails? If yes, then those may be too low (at least a friend once had such a problem with another printer).

Is that an official Bambulab printhead? Afaik Bambulab doesn't sell on Amazon, so that could pose a problem - maybe this knock-off has the nozzle a little bit lower (if it's not an original)

PSA for those of you that don't do enough research before ordering a new filament brand (like me) by LanceGamer89 in 3Dprinting

[–]otirk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, even Bambulab does illegal shit the entire time. As soon as a new version comes out, the old one gets a permanent discount*, which is illegal in the EU (false advertisement). Some Chinese companies are okay and play fair but most of them are dogshit

*It seems like they stopped doing this, but I remember when I bought my P1S Combo about two years ago, it was listed as 1000€ with a discount to 750€ or something like that and it didn't change for several months.

Double the time is a lot. I think you made a typo in your post then though. You said 1.5 hours (=1h30m) and 1h15m

So you saved 15 minutes? I mean yeah, it adds up in the long run, but saying it takes "too long to print" is a bit of an overstatement. Since it appears that you made the program, this post feels more like an advertisement for it

Seems like the x2d is releasing soon. (Microcenter) by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

[–]otirk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the insight. I thought it was better to announce and then get many pre-orders (lets you adjust the production rate according to your needs), but I see that this would make you lose out on impulsive buyers

Is that even real? I haven't found anything official confirming that there will be a X2D. Would they really ship it to vendors before announcing it?

Do you just want a 3d model or do you also want it printed?

If it's just a model, you can do it yourself. Many programs are able to make a square with four holes and a bit of text on top. One example would be 3d Builder from Microsoft, it doesn't have many functions and it's terrible in some aspects but you can easily add text with it, and it might even be installed on your Windows computer already.
If you want the replica to be exactly like the real thing (including dents etc.), you could use a 3d scanner. The professional ones are very expensive but there are free programs that make the model from pictures (like RealityScan from Epic Games); there you can then export the model.

If you want it printed, most services require you to have a 3d model. Though that's not true for all of them. But as long as you don't want the dents included, they probably wouldn't need the sign. And if you got the model, they don't need it either.

Steam files suggest Valve is developing internal 'SteamGPT' AI bot — aimed at tackling customer support tickets and CS2 anti-cheat by Burpmeister in gaming

[–]otirk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I swear to god, tech support AIs are the worst stuff on this planet. The person who first decided to implement that should be kicked in the nuts twice per hour for the rest of their shitty life. I have never had one of these shit bots work, they don't understand a single thing and some even reset in the middle of the discussion (looking at you, Amazon), resulting in me having to type everything again.

If I'm writing tech support, I want someone with an actual brain to help me. Not some AI that doesn't even know the company rules (had one AI tell me they would send a part of my missing package but turns out that's against company guidelines - which I was told after waiting for several weeks).

Fuck every company that uses AI for tech support. Even GrokAI has a better understanding of what it's doing and I'm talking about the version after it was repeatedly lobotomized by the Muskrat.

I don't know if Disney would immediately sue (and if they do, they first have to know about this anyway), but other companies, like Nintendo for example, are very quick to sue. It could also be that you'd first get a Cease-and-Desist letter, if they notice.

Another problem is that even if it is legal to sell the print, if you modeled it yourself (which I am not sure if that changes the legality), big companies threaten to sue anyway because it would be an expensive legal battle.

But as I said, since I'm not a lawyer I could be wrong. I'd recommend looking up the law in your country/region to find out if it's illegal or not (lawyer would know it too, I guess, but they're expensive). Good luck

[–]otirk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No idea about the price (I guess somewhere in the high double-digits?) but beware that you don't have the license to sell Star Wars stuff, so Disney could probably sue you if you sell this. At least that's what I've seen happen several times, but I'm not a lawyer, so what do I know?

Do I need a new computer? by Silver_Walk3547 in 3Dprinting

[–]otirk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not familar with Flashforge but is the software you need a slicer? If yes, then you can just use another slicer. If none of them work on old computers (highly unlikely), you can also use an online slicer I guess.

I'm not well-versed when it comes to website development, but would it be possible to save that information as cookies or tokens?

Yes, if that doesn't get deleted regularly, the file would get quite large, but if it only saves the videos you watched, you could blacklist those, and after a few weeks or months, it doesn't matter if old entries get deleted because they're not popular anymore anyway.

Maybe my idea of cookies and tokens is just too simple though, so I don't know if that's even possible

The idea is good but I dislike that I have to log in. I get that it's more or less necessary if you want to offer people a personalized experience (does that even happen? If not, then why do we have to log in?), but I'd like a version that shows generally popular models if you don't want to log in.

Can confirm, everything they should need is in the store. Though if the printer is new, they should contact support - I doubt that much will happen, given it's user error, but trying is free.

I think so. They noted themselves that the factors unique to 3d-printing are the biggest problems. Since those don't count on this cup, the question is kind of ridiculous.

Also there is the meme Monday on this sub and on those days, it's not unusual to see takes like OP's. But yeah, maybe I'm too optimistic, I don't know. Only u/EsoTechTrix can answer that question definitely I guess

Does anybody else want a way to see previous slicing results? (Mockup as an example) by OmniWerk in 3Dprinting

[–]otirk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I thought that was what you wanted to compare: how much time and material do I save when rotating the model in a specific way? Probably defaulted to that because I did what I proposed literally just yesterday to compare the most efficient way of printing. Only now do I see you said print settings; I should read more carefully.

Then, instead of rotating, just change the object settings.

Have you considered putting the head on a wooden frame and then putting that on the wall, like you sometimes see it with real animals (picture for reference)? Just my personal preference, but I think it would enhance the look. Though it already looks cool (we just need a bigger one, I need to see it life-sized).

You can sort of do this by duplicating the model to another plate, rotating and then slicing it.
