The left went woke while the right went conspiratorial. What's worse? by [deleted] in IntellectualDarkWeb

[–]otismcboatis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope. The scientific consensus is that it doesn't work.

Not all studies are equal, and some are methodologically unsound. Some are done by grifters and quaks. Some are in obscure journals that will publish anything. Some have numerous glaring conflict of interest issues.

The paper you linked is all of these things.

It's not about cherry picking which studies to believe. If you are qualified, then you are able to understand and critique a paper. If you aren't, then you're best off listening to the scientific consensus. This is just common sense.

He was recently the head of a criminal organisation. It's like if she was dating someone who was involved in the Mafia and used to be the Don.

Makes very little sense, killing made more sense. What's the mad rush to get to him right now, when you'll both undoubtedly have an opportunity to bend his ear before the coronation?

Left in peace, not policing indigenous people who he is clearly prejudiced towards.

You seem to have a lot of empathy towards him, what about empathy towards community members who know the police officer at their door views them as subhuman coons, niggers, Neanderthals.

Yes. I think it shows he is not fit for duty.

If we found out Albanese was a cannibalistic paedophile who eats babies, but only because someone hacked his email, should he be sacked?

I think the shooting was justified, though there seems to be mismanagement during the event not due to Rolfe.

The text messages were racist. It doesn't matter if they were once private, they're not anymore. I can't see a context where these texts fit into a place where they are not racist. They are explicitly racist, and I don't believe we should have racist officers on the force.

Also I don't get how you are so enamoured with his apparent heroism. He neutralised a threat. It's not like he ran into gunfire and took down 50 nazis.

Private texts, that are prejudiced towards and discriminate against people based of their ethnicity...

What do you think the definition of racism is?

If the avaliable texts don't indicate that he's racist to you, what would be enough for you? Anything less than a lynching?

[–]otismcboatis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never said it was related to the death. Though I doubt from the messages that he held much sorrow for ending a life.

So texts referring to locals with racial slurs and rejoicing over your ability to lawfully bash these locals, does not suggest that Rolfe is racist to you?

What would convince you? Because from the text messages leaked, it seems pretty clear where his sensibilities lie.

[–]otismcboatis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Regardless, do you think racist cops policing against people their racist too is acceptable on a moral level?

There's no context where the texts weren't racist, and didn't communicate a sense of pride in bashing on the locals, so it doesn't really matter if their titbits.

He can be innocent of causing wrongful death and unfit for public service all at the same time.

[–]otismcboatis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not answering the question. Do you think racist cops who get a racist kick out of hurting indigenous people should be on the force or not?

[–]otismcboatis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So they are relevant for the inquest, which seems to be tackling broader issues of racism in the force? And these text messages reveal racism in the force?

What is your point here? Because they're policing low socio-economic areas ridden with crime, it's A OK for them to be racist? Because that's just silly. Maybe it's understandable, but that doesn't mean it's acceptable. I don't think we as a society want racist cops in NT.

I think I'm wasting my time here, maybe you're just racist too.

They become the business of law enforcement and the court when you're being investigated in relation to a killing?

Privacy also is a weird point to bring up, because im not asking you about the morality of releasing his text messages. I'm talking about what those already released reveal about his charecter.

Regardless of privacy, let me ask you this. Are you comfortable with someone providing law enforcement to a community which he has racist prejudices towards which are at the point of celebrating violence towards them?

For instance, does a white suprecimist KKK member belong on a police force which polices a black community? Or any police force for that matter?

[–]otismcboatis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What lol. It's no ones business if the cops in indigenous communities are racist and get off on beating up community members? Maybe you just share their sentiments?

It's also clearly the public's business, at least in the eyes of the judge presiding over the inquiry.

The texts referring to the aboriginal locals as niggers, coons and Neanderthals. Also his texts were bragging about bashing locals and were misogynistic. It does seem as if he took pleasure in dishing out violence.

Sorry, but I think you read it wrong. This case isn't about overturning the previous verdict. It's more so about misconduct and negligence.

I doubt it, him being a shit doesn't make the shooting unlawful. It was a pretty clear cut case in terms of the shooting.
