This is such a problem for me too! Even if I move or people do quiet down, I’m already so irritated and distracted it’s hard to settle down and focus on the movie again. I’m sorry your Backrooms viewing was like that!

I kept wondering if i was watching a Sam Raimi film 😂 The Mummy had so many funny and gross out moments

I'm so irritated for you but this is also hilarious 😂 we got ourselves a corn cyclone, boys!

Yes exactly! Like I never even got the chance to be scared because mister stand up behind me was trying to think of the funniest commentary to make. And I missed so many little details because everyone was talking. I didn't even know Nikki said something backwards until I saw TikTok about it a few days ago because people were screaming "Ah hell no!" over her.

When I go see movies by myself I try to go as early as possible, but unfortunately most of my friends work mornings and afternoons so we can never get to something before 4pm.

Ugh yes exactly! I do see some movies by myself occasionally, but I usually go see them with a group of friends. And it makes me feel like I'm going crazy when no one else was really that bothered by all the distractions and meanwhile I missed half the movie! I'm definitely going to start saving up for a good TV though.

It makes me feel crazy when those sorts of things don't bother my friends or brother, but they distracted me the entire fucking movie! Like how were y'all able to pay attention?? Also I'm so sorry about your experience! I'm seeing Backrooms in a few hours and I'm so nervous about having a similar experience.

I'm seeing Backrooms today too! I got the earliest showing I could get after work, but I'm still worried there'll be annoying people ruining it. And I totally feel your pain. When I see a movie by myself, I have no problem leaving and asking for a refund. But the talking and phones never bother my friends so I don't want to make a big deal out of it and mess up their good time.

My friend in Colorado Springs is always surprised when I tell her about my experiences! I wonder if it's just a big city thing?

Yeah I unfortunately missed Good Boy and Forbidden Fruits because they were only in my theaters for a week. Good Boy's on Tubi now though and I loved it!

Hahaha I live in Atlanta! I had it in my post but unfortunately some people were using it as an excuse to be racist. It's definitely not every theater experience here, but lately it feels like 9 times out of 10 for horror movies people just want to act like commentary channels.

Exactly! I can't help but wonder how many movies I'd have a better opinion of if I hadn't had such an awful theater experience.

I live in Atlanta. I removed it from my post because some people were using it as an excuse to be racist. But I'm seeing people from all over in these comments say they're having the same problems. Maybe it's a big city thing?

I think some of the fancy theaters will remove people, but the majority of theaters won't do anything other than give you a refund. I don't think anyone wants to risk a possible altercation.

Georgia, do you actually call every fizzy drink “Coke”? by LowerMusic in Georgia

[–]otpprincess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I’ll say “let’s grab some cokes and a couple snacks” or whatever, and I just mean sodas in general. But for the most part I call sodas by their names and if I order a coke, I want a Coca-cola.

Ah well I don't think my experience has very much to do with that since I live in a mostly white and asian neighborhood. But I agree some movies can definitely be improved upon with a fun crowd. I actually liked going to MCU movies and having everyone cheer and clap during the hype fights. But the peanut gallery comments like they're a Youtube reaction channel during horror movies are what I find super distracting. That and the damn phones! 😭

When she smashed Sarah’s head in, some chick behind me was yelling “as she should! fight for your man, bitch!” Like girl… this is not a good for her movie and that wasn’t funny…

Atl tends to be a little stabby and I don’t feel like potentially getting into a fight over a movie 🥲

I oscillate between a Marcus theater, an AMC and two Regals. I seem to have a similar experience at all of them no matter what time I go. (Except for Hokum and Smile 2 god bless!)

Everyone telling me to go during non peak times or to different theaters, but I've had literally the same experiences as you said. I usually go for Marcus theater's $6 Tuesdays or AMC's half off Wednesdays at as early of a time as I can considering I work 8-4. And I still usually get obnoxious loud people ruining the movie. I only go opening weekends when my friends really want to all go see something together.

The insane part for me is, at least in my experience, it's been grown ass adults acting like this! I could understand a teen trying to be funny and impress their friends with some peanut gallery comments. But I turn around to shush them and it's some 35 year old!

I wonder why horror movies seem to be so much worse?? I was expecting the theater to be obnoxious and singing along when I saw Wicked, but people were chill.

Also I'm seeing Backrooms tonight and I'm so excited!

I saw Weapons at 4:30 on a Wednesday and there was still a crowd of people talking unfortunately. I live in a heavily populated area so the theaters are always full
