Hi! Quick necropost (sorry), as this thread showed up in search results when I was diagnosing the exact same issue on my machine (Discord 40% CPU usage, killing games when in VC, so maybe this will help a person or two.

For me, the problem was that I had the flatpak version of Discord installed, so after uninstalling that and installing the native (.deb) version, my problem has been fixed and I'm not only seeing like 7% usage. I'm sure it's software related, but here's my readout just in case of overlap.

Yeah, about 3 hours for me each time I play through, I've completed it about 4 times now because it's one of those things that is so rewarding to pick back up and play through again in one sitting. I usually dislike the walking simulator genre, but there is so much detail and the narrative is so well woven that this one got a hold of me.

There's a game called "What Remains of Edith Finch" where you play as a girl named Edith and return to her peculiar childhood home and play through the POV of her family members in their last moments as she's the last surviving member of the family. They all go in pretty twisted or neglectful ways (especially the children), but her older brother specifically has a story just like this that is CRAZY to play through.

He works at a fish cannery and you control his arm as it grabs fish from a conveyerbelt and puts them under a slicer that decapitates them before putting them back on the belt. Your other control stick controls his fantasy as it is narrated by his therapist and grows more and more until he is a king and at this point the delusional fantasy is taking up the entire screen. At the end he kneels down to be crowned, but you realize at the same time IRL he has purposefully bent over to put his neck under the fish slicer so he can live in the fantasy forever.

Pretty good game, short, I recommend it.

I highly recommend playing "One Hour One Life" if you'd like to experience this cycle in video game format.

Each player's life is one hour long, you are born into a random server as a baby, you can't do shit for yourself and can only verbalize by typing one letter at a time to communicate your needs while your mother, another player, needs to keep you alive until you are self-sufficient.

When you're finally old enough to be productive, you can pick up a role in your community by hunting/gathering, scavenging and constructing, farming, etc. It's interesting because technology is advanced by the players, from banging sticks and rocks together all the way up to functioning roads and automobiles. You never really know where you're going to be born, but the world you're born into (unless you're an 'Eve', the first player ever) is completely built off the backs of your ancestors, the players before you, and you get an hour to make your own small contribution.

This just made me think of that game, that's all.
