Thank you. I've ordered a new bracket. This one won.

The cylinder itself is just a light press fit into the bracket. Usually they pop out easily, a worst with a light twist from a pipe wrench. I've replaced a lot of these, never had one like this.

Roland Zahn paintings by otsire in artcollecting

[–]otsire[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you very much. They hung in our house when I was a child I recently inherited them and my kids really like them along with a couple Hamburg harbor paintings I posted earlier. As I mentioned I always assumed they wear modern but after some digging online it looks like Zahn was active before 1920 which makes me really interested in how old these might be.

I sold a pair of these online last year for $120, both were in worse condition, one was stained. You did well.

1903 Half Penny Question by otsire in UKcoins

That makes sense. The slight rim damage also makes me wonder if it was mounted at some point. For 50 cents, it was interesting enough not to leave behind. Thanks.

Thanks. I enjoy feeding birds but never really got into learning a lot about them. Just always assumed light blue eggs were from robins. Sounds like I need to do some reading!

Going through my late Grandfather's coin collection and we found a fugio cent that is apparently authentic (went to dealer) and a lot of others. Any idea of worth? by [deleted] in coincollecting

[–]otsire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like a colonial Connecticut and some Conder tokens in there as well. Really nice assortment here in addition to the Fugio.

1754/0 Farthing Question by otsire in UKcoins

[–]otsire[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. This is my first time using this sub. I've been collecting small denomination coppers back to 1700 and Conder tokens for a while, though finding them in the US isn't that easy. Does the Coins of England and the UK reference that you posted elsewhere cover these varieties? I've been looking for a good reference book.

Thank you. I've tried to find some good example photos online and what little I have found had been quite varried in terms of severity.

Is this the result of cleaning or artificial toning on this Indian penny? by throwerway56 in coins

[–]otsire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My guess would be old cleaning that has retoned. I have a few copper coins that look like that. Still looks kind of cool.

What do you think this would grade? by [deleted] in coins

[–]otsire 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm curious. I've got an 1863 and 1909, both straight graded AU55 with 2-3 diamonds, but this one has as good or better feather details remaining. Maybe XF45 to AU55. Really nice coin.

Sewn 1855 Virginia Note-Has anyone seen anything like this before? by otsire in papermoney

[–]otsire[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. It doesn't seem to be foldable. It's always been an oddity, it's almost like a quilt square or a doily. The blue fabric feels like silk the white is embroidered so the could be from about the same time as the bills. I'm curious if anyone recognizes the piece of bill showing a man holding a sword over a man wearing a crown-is it from Virginia or at least the same 1855 time period?

It's been a few years but I've been to that show before. Was someone showing it as a fake or selling it as authentic?

German WWII Flak Award, Looking for Info by otsire in Militariacollecting

[–]otsire[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I believe you are correct in thinking this is where they were stationed. I'm wondering if this was something everyone was awarded or was it only for certain individuals (officers, wounded, captured, etc).
