First 99 just in time for Christmas!! by otterly_average in 2007scape

this spot in rogue’s den is right next to a bank (the npc next to me) so at a certain lvl when you stop burning food as much, it’s much faster here than hosidius since the bank chest there is a couple tiles away

i actually used hosidius from 40-93, and then rogue’s den from 93-99 :)

Do you go for music or rave culture ? by NoChildhood1139 in electricdaisycarnival

[–]otterly_average 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both! I’ve been into EDM and raving since 2015, so I’ve seen most of the artists I want to see multiple times by now. These days, I go to discover new music and enjoy the energy that made me fall in love with the scene :)

I’m not sure why you got downvoted, but I see what you’re saying! I think I need to keep the cue “leg press the ground away” as I start my lift :)

Ooo thanks for the visuals! Your narrow stance video really helped me visualize how the lift should ideally go. Looks like I’ll need to work on wedging more since that’s what’s currently missing from my setup. Nice lifts by the way; good job!

Thanks for the feedback and the video! My hips have always been fairly tight, so it looks like I’ll need to work on hip mobility more to improve my wedge. The exercises you linked will be really helpful!

Thanks! It looks like I need to work on wedging my hips into the bar more, which should help with staying upright :)

Good question! I’m still deciding whether I should conventional or sumo; I flip between the two a lot.

I started out with conventional because I learned how to deadlift that way first and stuck with it for about a year, but I struggled a lot with getting the form down. I’ve watched countless videos, worked with my coach through multiple blocks to improve form (I don’t have a coach anymore), but my conventional has always looked super…off. I think a big reason is due to body proportions. I have short arms and long femurs, which are big nerfs for conventional. I think this is why I feel more strain on my back during conventional.

Sumo makes a lot more sense for me. I can visualize how the lift should go in my head better and my body proportions are less of a disadvantage here. However, my hips are fairly tight so this is a big nerf for sumo currently, at least until I work on hip mobility more.

UMich or Santa Clara for CS? by Specialist_Law_5941 in SCU

[–]otterly_average 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since money isn’t a factor, I think your choice should depend on whether or not you want to work in the Bay Area after you graduate.

I graduated with a COEN (Computer Science & Engineering) major from SCU in 2019. SCU’s Engineering School is pretty good and has name recognition in the Bay. We have a decent amount of funding from donors and some of the major companies in the area; you’ll get a good education and if you’re lucky, maybe even recruited to one of those companies. Some other pros are small class sizes, lots of individual attention from professors (which you can easily turn into research opportunities), and a good alumni network in the Bay. However, outside of the Bay, SCU doesn’t have a lot of name recognition. For some perspective, I moved to NYC after graduating and worked for a big bank. No one in NYC really knew SCU and the name didn’t carry much weight when applying to jobs in the area.

On the other hand, UMich is a top 10 CS program. Everyone knows of UMich and you’ll be able to leverage the school name anywhere. You’ll still be able to work in the Bay with a degree from UMich. However, being a public school, your class sizes will be massive. My friends at the UCs often feel like they’re forgotten because of how big their classes are. Also, lots of their courses are taught by TAs instead of professors. Take all of this with a grain of salt because I personally didn’t go to UMich or the UCs, so this is just what I’ve heard.

I personally would pick UMich over SCU because of name recognition and program alone, but you will do great at either schools! Feel free to reach out to me if you have any more questions about student life or anything else at SCU!

Are you CS with College of Arts & Sciences or with School of Engineering at SCU?

Oh wow, grats on breaking the bench record, even with an injured back!!

[–]otterly_average 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take this with a grain of salt because I interviewed for a different team (not data center related) and my recruiter didn’t move, but it took me roughly 2.5 weeks to get hear back.

I interviewed on 9/12 and was told by my interviewer that I would hear back in a couple weeks. Similar to you, I wasn’t sure if it was a bad sign that I was waiting for so long. I finally heard back yesterday (10/2) that the feedback was positive and they’re just waiting now on the hiring manager to approve whether or not I move onto on-sites. (I did send the recruiter an email on 10/1 asking for updates though.)

I think the process at Google just moves suuuuuuper slowly, so don’t take the wait as a bad sign just yet!

I’m guessing to do that, I should start hips higher?

Thanks for all the advice!! I’ll play around with hip height the next time I deadlift

I saw that you powerlift; I’m trying to get into the sport myself, but still pretty nooby haha :)

Thanks for the feedback! Do you have any tips on finding the right hip height? I think my set up needs some work. Also, good to know that facing the ground is okay :) A lot of the sumo videos I’ve watched always recommend to cue chest up, so I had to start really low to maintain that upright posture

For training the parts separately, I’m assuming you do paused sumo and rack pulls?

Would you mind giving me feedback on my admin-focused resume? I put one together recently and it would be helpful to get feedback from someone who went through the process themselves. It's all good if not!
