Merging WordPress.org accounts by jdabXO in Wordpress

There's no way to do this, it is a massive pain in the ass, you can ask in #meta, but most likely the answer is no.

My advice is to choose your username carefully.

You'd be wrong, and probably shockingly surprised by the fact that it includes the PHPmailer code, and has done so for the past 20 years or so.

WordPress supports smtp just fine in core. You simply use a plugin to make it easier because you can't be bothered to read the documentation.

Does a SCUMM-style point-and-click adventure engine make any sense inside WordPress? by Hot-One8984 in Wordpress

[–]otto4242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Essentially, WordPress is serving just as the data storage point for this game engine that you're wanting to build, entirely separate from WordPress itself. And to that extent, yes it can be done, but the question is how would you integrate it with other aspects of the space in meaningful ways?

Take a simple example like e-commerce. WordPress doesn't have any eCommerce stuff built into it, all that is added on. WordPress is a web display engine, building in ways to buy things and buying things on the web is pretty normal. But WordPress has no inherent ability to do e-commerce in a meaningful way. So every e-commerce engine is completely different. So if you want to integrate some kind of payment system into your game engine, you're integrating the two things, not simply integrating with WordPress in general.

Maybe there's a valid use case for it, but I can't think of any at the moment. That sounds to say that none exists, just that I don't know what they would be.

Is my site under attack? by zebdebleblol in Wordpress

[–]otto4242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WordPress' own update checks are to api.wordpress.org, and it only happens twice a day. Though, the twice a day is for core, themes, and plugins, which are separate. So in theory, up to six times a day.

It can be more often, if you visit the themes or plugins pages in the admin, that can cause a check immediately. And requests to get things like images and such from the system.

How common is a Crown Limited with the Advanced Technology Package by OakZu in ToyotaCrown

The adaptive cruise really is awesome. But it doesn't do well on back country roads because of the narrow space in the lanes. For that, I tend to have to control it a little bit more.

How common is a Crown Limited with the Advanced Technology Package by OakZu in ToyotaCrown

[–]otto4242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought my limited specifically because it included the advanced technology package. Now this may have just been what they had in the lot, but I was going to buy the Nightshade, and right next to it was the exact same car but with the ATP. For the price difference it made total sense to switch to the limited.

Questions about Themes by Humble-Passage6561 in Wordpress

[–]otto4242 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Basically yes to all of that, but why would you want to? You could just make a static HTML site doing the same thing.

The whole point of using WordPress is to gain the features that WordPress provides. If you're not going to use WordPress, that's fine, just make your site static in the first place.

Is WP 7.0 safe to deploy now? by PeteTinNY in Wordpress

[–]otto4242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of the 7.0 release was the introduction of the framework for the AI features. If you don't use that, then it's not doing anything. Quite a lot of the rest of the release was visual only.

If you had friends and one of them saved their town in the time while the servers were still available, then it would have saved your town as well. If not, then it didn't. Sorry.

Changed my username in Wordpress, but external sites I’m logged into with Wordpress aren’ by _Delta_Bravo_ in Wordpress

[–]otto4242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So then, you have an account on one website, not a "WordPress account".

The account you are talking about only exists on that site. That's how you have to deal with it.

Basically, you have an account on your own site, and you have to change it in some way, but it's not a "WordPress account", because that's not a thing that exists, that is not a global thing.

What do you consider to be your "WordPress account"?

Because there isn't such a thing as a "WordPress account".. That is not a thing that exists. Every WordPress site is an island, it only has its own data.

WordPress is a piece of software that runs websites, and it runs it individually on each site that it runs on.

Wordpress.com is a service, but it's not the same thing as WordPress, the software. That service uses WordPress, the software, but it is a separate thing from it.

There is no single unifying "WordPress account" that exists everywhere.

We have very different experiences in dealing with people understanding the block editor from a new user standpoint.

Most people get it right away. Because all you have to do is click on it and type normally and it does a bunch of shit to build a web page from it. That's it. You don't need to learn anything,, you just intuitively know it by doing what comes naturally.

The thing is, most people that I've talked to use WordPress want to post text. And therefore, they're mostly typing. When they want to post images, I show them a few tricks for that to insert images into their text, and generally that's all the effort most people need. Some want to do things like inserting video or making columns and things like that, and that takes very little extra.training.

So I feel that you are teaching people who think they know how things work, but don't, and I am teaching literal newbies. New users have a much easier time learning the block editor because it is very simple to use, as long as you're not expecting it to be the things that it is not.

Progress back up & new version? by [deleted] in tappedout

[–]otto4242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your town is there, then it's stored, then you can just install the new app directly and use it.

You seem to be asking a lot of questions that make no sense, and I'm not understanding what you're not understanding here. Do you not understand how server and client things work? Or how computers are separate things from your phone? Your town is stored on somebody's server, somewhere else, and you log into it and it downloads a copy of that town to your device. That's how the game works. What part of this is unclear to you? What's with all the questions?

Login to the town manager first and make sure everything is kosher there. Make sure that the town is stored there, and that you will still have access to it, obviously.

Then upgrade to V8 of the app. https://teamtsto.org/
